Stevie Nicks played the first of her "not a tour, tour," at the Santa Barbara Bowl. She performed 15 songs, including Dreams, Rhiannon, Gold Dust Woman, Edge of Seventeen and Landslide, which she dedicated to Cecilia, an year-old family friend battling cancer. Stevie mentioned the young girl several times during the evening and proceeds from her show at Santa Barbara are going toward her escalating medical costs.
Stevie Nicks was in terrific form and mentioned that she was half-way through a new album. Her band was led by her long-time musical director and friend Waddy Wachtel, who drove her 9 member band through an energetic performance. The night also included several covers: Rock & Roll, You Wreck Me and Face the Promise, by Zeppelin, Petty and Seger, respectively.
She's only supposed to be doing six shows, but you never know...
Stevie sounded great last night, even though it was a cold evening. The show was very loose, first concert and all. She was very happy on stage and talked a lot. She said that the red shawl she wore for Stand Back goes way back to early Fleetwood Mac era. Then she said back then when she wore her high boots, the shawl wasn't that long, but now it is because she is definitely not high. And the audience applauded thinking she was talking about drugs, but I don't think that was what she meant because she then laughed at the audience's response. I think she was telling us that she is done with the boots, once and for all. She wore her Nike ones the whole night, and at 62 I don't blame her. She didn't even change into white for Edge, maybe becaue of the weather. And she had a scarf around her neck all night also. Can't wait for the new CD! ! !
ReplyDeleteWhat is this 6th show that she keeps talking about? There are only 5 listed everywhere.
ReplyDeleteshe sang "You Wreck Me"? Im going to die! ♥

There is supposedly a Corporate Gig for Fleetwood Mac somewhere on the east coast.. Could be what 6 shows means.
ReplyDelete@williamusic Stevie also wore at least two shawls/capes from FMAC days, during her performance. And she used them to poke a little fun at herself. On the first, she commented, '...this is so old, I'm surprised it doesn't fall apart at any moment...kinda like me!' On the second, a much longer cape, she said she used to wear really high-heeled boots with it; and now she no longer does, nor is she high. Stevie had a good laugh after each quip, as did the audience.
ReplyDeleteI hate those Nike shoes she wears. Totally unstylish. She'd look better barefoot (like k.d.lang) with her toes polished+painted and a sparkling toe ring. Or have new boots made that are comfortable but totally cool.
ReplyDeleteCorporate gig for highrollers at the Bellagio in Vegas on Saturday
