A couple of unit sales updates on two Fleetwood Mac albums currently on the Top 200 Catalog Album Chart in the US.
Top 200 Catalog Album Chart For the week ending October 3, 2010
Fleetwood Mac "Greatest Hits" is at #105 with 1,353 units sold - down about 6% from the previous week of 1,434 units sold. Total Soundscan sales on the 1988 release since 1991 when Soundscan began keeping track = 4,386,923. The album is certified 8x platinum in the US.
Also on the Top 200 Catalog Album Chart for the first time in a long time is "The Very Best of Fleetwood Mac" sitting at #182 with 1,048 units sold - down approx. 7% from the previous week where the set sold 1,132 units. Total Soundscan sales for the 1x platinum "The Very Best Of" = 1,366,277.
Since July, 2005 "The Very Best Of" 2 disc set has sold 319,596 units in the US. Because "The Very Best Of" is a 2 disc set, each cd within qualifies for certification by the RIAA in the US. To achieve platinum certification the 2 disc set only needs to sell 500,000 units and to achieve double platinum status 1 million units need to be sold. With sales at 1,366,277 this means that "The Very Best Of" is approaching the 3x platinum mark (1,366,277 x 2 = 2,732,544).
I love to see the sales stats. Imagine the money these people have made!
