Bin Laden is dead, but Stevie Nicks is very much with us. Her new album "In Your Dreams" is out this week

Web users more interested in new Stevie Nicks CD than news of bin Laden's death?

Will someone with knowledge of what constitutes an Internet “trend” please explain why Stevie Nicks was trending higher than “bin Laden dead” on Yahoo just fours hours after President Obama announced the killing of the most notorious terrorist of the past decade?

Stevie Nicks was the No. 1 trending term on Yahoo around 12:15 a.m. Pacific Time on May 2, as the image with this report shows.

Now, The Punditty Project loves Stevie Nicks as much as the next 40-something American raised on FM radio in the 1970s, but why should there be more interest in her right now, at this particular moment in time, than in the death of Osama bin Laden?

As far as I can tell, it might be because she has released a new album, “In Your Dreams.”

It was a big night for the U.S. military and President Obama, but in some ways, apparently, it was a bigger night for Stevie Nicks. But will it translate into sales? Stay tuned.

  2. Since other than her non-political visits to Walter Reed Army Hospital and Bethesda Naval Hospital, Stevie has always remained pointedly silent on her views, I find this post a bit disturbing. She does not in any way need to be connected with such a horrifying person.

  3. Stevie is still trending highly. Maybe people just want to look on the bright side of life. I was on active duty on deployment with the USS Cole when she and my fellow shipmates were attacked. OBL this is for the USS cole and my fallen shipmates. Its great that Stevie is trending like this. Just goes to show that good eventually wins over evil.

  5. The FULL-Page New York Times article might've had a little something to do with this :)

  6. Liz Rosenberg has just sent a press release, stating that Stevie "has pneumonia and the flu" and won't be able to fly to New York for scheduled appearances.

I believe this is either Stevie afraid of the political/media frenzy happening now (or she's in agreement with her people) regarding the death-of-Obama news, speculation about terrorism concerns, and even this report that the U.S. is "more interested in Stevie Nicks' CD than the news of the death of bin Laden".

It's really not the best time for her to do this with all of the other media distractions and controversy.

  8. This is so freakin' weird! I remember when 9/11 happened, Stevie's Trouble in Shangri La cd came out that May of the same year and she cancelled a bunch of shows and appearances, and years later she talked about how she thought that may be one of the reasons that album didn't do as well as expected. Now here we are 10 years later, May again and once again Bin Laden is somehow connected to Stevie! And now she's trending ahead of Bin Laden? Weird!
