Not good, she needs a single or the album is going to tank. This album is not going to go gold. It's a bomb and she will never record another one after this. It's over.

When is she going to release a REAL single? Secret Love puts people to sleep. She needs to catch attention. She has singles on the album. Cannot believe they didn't have a commercial for Glee. It's over!

I say 47K is pretty good 1st week, considering the industry and Stevie's age. IYD is a great record, Hope it continues to get great reviews and word of mouth. WB would be smart to release a new catchy single immediately, unfortunately SL is still climbing. it just hit Top 20 on the AC chart.

It's far from OVER!! get a grip! The records been out 1 week. It would have been insane to believe that Stevie would match TISL 1st week totals.

Wow!! Ye of little faith. She doesn't have to go gold, she doesn't even have to do much at all to sustain. That's a done deal... can't you tell? She's 62 and still recording BIG...she's on the charts probably coming in at #5 or even #6 . I'm thinking that is just fine for some whose name is recognized all over. She doesn't have to do much at all.. thing is she did. She released an album that, from looking at the reviews, most love.. no i didn't say like.. I said Love!! Then you have all these who aren't die hard fans but who also LOVE this CD. Terrible isn't it to be one of the few who doesn't?

Really tired of these anonymous tools who come on here and do nothing but bitch and moan and bash.
Put your name to it at least, and own up. Being contrarian doesn't make u cool or edgy or brave or important .The most cowardly thing a person can do is go in a FAN website and anonymously post negatively. I have on occasion been critical. I always post by name and my critiques are pointed and meaningful. The harsh predictions and overly dramatc gloom and doom after first week sales aren't even out yet is at best, irresponsible, and more accurately, just projected misery.

Going gold to signify success was a standard adopted in the early 80's for no other reason then to give the 'impression' of success... Doesn't work so much today. It also doesn't mean anything dollar wise which is what the record label and Stevie look at to determine if the album was/is a success. The ratio between money spent on the project and what it brings in from sales is really what determines it's success...We'll never know the amount of money it took for production, promotion, advances etc. to make this record... So for Anonymous to already be writing off this project is premature... It's hard to sell records today... I think 47,000 copies in the US only is respectable given she hasn't been out with new material in a decade...

I'm with you on that one Tony. I'm sick of hearing this stuff too. Stevie is going to be 63 at the end of the month and has yet another Top 10 solo album under her belt. Considering the state of the ENTIRE music industry now I'm not sure how selling 47,000 copies of your album the first week could make it a bomb!

Rianbay1 said...

Also, I believe that that 47,000 is only retail soundscan sales and MP3 album downloads. I don't think internet sales are added until billboard comes out with it's final top 200 album chart, so it could actually top out around 50,000. This also doesn't count sales from what's left of the smaller record store who don't use soundscan.

She was on Glee for God's sake. Why is she only selling that much? What excuse are people going to make up for her this time? Horrible!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It doesn't matter if an album goes Top 10. That only matters when it comes to singles. Sales are what matter for albums.

That includes iTunes and eveything. I cannot believe this. I had soo many high hopes for this album being her platinum comeback. That is never going to happen. Her career is over!

I want to cry. They released that boring sing Secret Love and it's stalled LIKE EVERYONE KNEW IT WOULD. It's a nice song for an elevator. I bet Dave is embarrassed.

Rianbay1 said...

If, at 63, anyone thought Stevie was going to have a HUGE hit single and a platinum album, they haven't been paying much attention to the charts in the last 6-7 years. Even MOST of the BIGGEST acts in current pop music aren't experiencing those kinds of numbers in terms of album sales. As fas singles go, that's a little difficult too since radio(except for a FEW Adult contemporary and AAA stations) IGNORES veteran astists P.E.R.I.O.D. Why can't we all just enjoy this album for what it is. An EXCLLENT new album by Stevie Nicks...Something we will still be emjoying in years to come!!

ehh, so many opinions, maybe 100,000 copies won't be soo bad. She's got enough money anyway.

The recording industry is in shambles. One needs to remember that for every unit sold, ten more units are either burned on ones pc for friends or illegally downloaded on Frostwire or other file sharing websites. Total unit sales for any album these days are way down compared to 15 years ago. And radio is now geared towards 12-17 year old kids. The top 40 no longer represents what it once did. Veteran artists simply do not radio formats they can be played on. In fact, the top albums like Justin Bieber, Jonas bros, Miley, etc sell well because they are geared towards kids that don't download illegally--their parents buy the cd's for them. Considering how fragmented the music industry is now, Stevie selling 45,000 units without a widely played single is pretty impressive. In fact, that 45,000 in sales probably equals close to 150,000 once illegal downloads and/or home burned copies are factored in. Bottom line, IYD is getting circulated pretty well. Sorry folks, but more and more people obtain their music for free these days. It's just the sign of then times. It isn't the 1980's any longer.

Not just the last six or seven years, try the last 20 years!

The music business does NOT promote or support older artists who release new material. It's been that way for more than a decade. Anyone remember hearing any massive hits off Trouble in Shangri-la? The fact that record went gold in less than two months compared to the four years it took Street Angel to hit gold was Stevie's major commercial triumph for that record.

Considering the nature of the music industry and downloads and piracy and ageism and sexism and all that stuff, selling over 47,000 copies of In Your Dreams is a commercial success.

I said it before and I'll say it again: Success for Stevie and In Your Dreams is not going to be about chart position or album sales. It's going to be about the fact that she put out a wonderful record that she's rightly proud of. It's about the fact that she put out 13 songs that connect with her fan base on so many levels. It's about the fact that she's rejuvenated and is still writing terrific material.

I think Annabel Lee is the best song on the album and should be released as the next single!!! BTW, the album is INCREDIBLE!!! Shoo, shoo, shoo all you little naysayers!!!! Stevie will be 63YRS OLD and looks and sounds AMAZING!!!!!!!!!

John said...

This is a damn respectable debut. She's 63 years old, has been making records for nearly 40 years, and still debuts in the top 10. That's awesome! Granted, she's not selling the huge numbers she used to, but she is still a force to be reckoned with.

That said, I do think her label needs to get a good second single out into the market quickly. Otherwise, the album is going to take a quick dive on the charts, and it shouldn't because it needs to be heard. This is her finest collection of songs in a long time. People need to buy it, but continuing to push "Secret Love" isn't going to get them to the stores. What about the title track or "Italian Summer" or "Moonlight"? Or how about sending "For What it's Worth" to country radio?

I hope the label doesn't give up on the album. She has more than 350,000 fans on Facebook, so there are still lots of people to reach.

Anonymous said...

Well she is not going to tour with those kind of numbers. Sorry, folks.

Anonymous said...

47,000+ for first week sales is an amazing number considering 1. her age (radio won't play anyone over 35), 2. It's been 10 years since her last album and 3. Music industry sales as a whole are tanked.

It's interesting that the same people claiming they "love" Stevie Nicks are trumpeting that "it's over!". Lame. It's like the few reviewers who went against the grain and slammed IYD all felt they had to say "I love Nicks, but"...they're just afraid to take the heat for embarassingly off kilter reviews.

RockALittle250 said...

What kind of numbers? Were you expecting her to sell over 100,000 copies? She's debuting five places under Adele who is the hottest selling artist and biggest name of the year. She is debuting at #6, which besides TISL in 2001, she has not done since 1983, so saying her numbers are "disappointing" is ridiculous and completely misguided. Perhaps you should stop wasting your time bashing Stevie and go find an artist who fulfills your needs if you believe that she is disappointing to you.

the wildheart said...

No one is bashing Stevie, she said that in order to tour this album had to come out charging from the gate. Well, it's more of a fast trot and she is not going to tour with and should not. The album is not a failure but its not a triumph either. Her time is gone. Radio is not going to play her eventhough the album is really good. It's really a shame and very, very, very sad.

Anonymous said...

But it IS a triumph, that's the point that you're missing the wildheart. With the state of the music business a top 10 debut is still a HIT, its just that everyone's album sales are down.

RockALittle250 said...

Again, were you expecting 100,000 copies? What are you comparing Stevie to as far as a barometer of success? She's getting rave reviews, is debuting in the Top 10 and has a solid, cohesive piece of work to stand behind. If that's not success then what is? If you feel her time is gone why are you wasting yours trying to explain to us all that she just needs to go away, essentially. The days of her selling over 100,000 copies debut week are gone, yes, but that doesn't diminish her longevity as an artist just because the music business has changed.

Anonymous said...

I agree RockALittle250. Plus at a certain point its the artistry that has to matter rather than sales. Just ask Lindsey Buckingham.

We are all here because we love the magic Stevie brings to our lives. I admit with the great reviews and tv appearances I was hoping for a top of the charts debut. So its natural that some of us feel a little dissapointed. But...top 5 is great! The reviews are great! The tv appearances are great! What a gift this has been! I can remember when I thought she'd never come back from "street angel"...but she has...and she toured! I'm hoping the Wiltern birthday show might spark an interest in a national theater tour. Its not over yet!

I dont get all the negativety from some of the posts. Stevie put out an excellent cd that will debut in the top 10, Secret love is top 20, great reviews, lots of exposure...Im not sure which of these things equals failure. Stevie is doing just fine, unfortunately some of you dont seem to be doing so well...get help...

In Your Dreams is a wonderful gift. It is impossible to pick just one favorite. Every time I listen to it I find something else to fall in love with.
Jerks can say all the negative things they want to. It will not change the fact that...
Stevie Nicks has done exactly what she said she wanted to. She made a great CD for her fans full of HER music. and it is MUSIC. Wonderful Music!!
Thank you!!!!!

Wonderful, wonderful work... I cannot thank Stevie and everyone enough for this uplifting, beautiful music which brings me joy... I would consider making My Heart, For What It's Worth and You May Be the One as singles... these should be on the radio for sure :)

I tell ya I just got a laugh when someone comments "her career is over!" That's hysterical! The album is a success. We'd all love for her tohave a hit single. It's early yet... Tim

if the album stays in the TOP 15 next week, I will be very surprised. I love Stevie. I wish they would release a new single soon.

WB really should have promoted it more. TISL had the whole VH1 push behind it. These first week sales include all the pre-orders that have been purchased for months now. When you take those out the album is going to drop like lead next week, which is a shame. A successful single could revive it, but no matter how good the songs are you need radio to get behind a single big time -- and sadly I don't see that happening. Radio has abandoned older artists, even supremely talented ones like Stevie. No matter what her sales are, Stevie to me will always be the greatest. But this is a sad commentary on the state of music and radio....

Anonymous said...

I don't see the problem as being WB alone. Stevie chose Secret Love because it was easy to sing. The single has a tendency to put people a sleep. It's nice and all but nowhere near the best single from the album. I know people who have heard Secret Love and they just said NO. They gave her a chance and she got her listen, but they did not like the song. It's not even representative of the album. The Dancing with the Stars thing with Secret Love is just wrong. Italian Summer is a grand BALLROOM and she won't do it. She has spent two months promoting a song only some people like while she has better stuff on her album. Pure laziness.

Anonymous said...

^^ First of all by you stating that Stevie chose Secret Love for the first single because it's easy to sing is your opinion... You have no way of knowing why it was chosen... None of us do. Second of all, the song is a great radio tune.. it's short, sounds great.. There's a story behind it.. a history... And far more people like the tune then don't so your suggestion that it puts people to sleep is again YOUR OPINION. Plus, you've been listening to the song for half a year.. not everybody has... And have you watched Dancing With The Stars? Adele was on the other night and basically it was her on a stage playing to the audience... There was hardly a dancer on the dance floor. A couple swept across but it wasn't a BALLROOM... and she sang an up tempo tune...

Anonymous said...

^^ Dave Stewart didn't choose the single for release. It's not even one of his favorites He seemed suprised. I agree with the other poster. No one cares about the history of Secret Love. The song is boring. Let's be truthful. It gave Stevie talking points and it does seem easy to sing. However, it is not going to move CDs. Landslide is a big mistake. People are sick of Landslide. Start following twitter.

My prediction is the album is going to bomb in the next three weeks and everyone is going to blame WB, like they usually do. However, I see it as being a problem of Stevie's. Just like in her concerts, she won't stretch. She plays it too safe and that's one reason why she is considered such a relic.

Michelle said...

I agree with anonymous above (14 May): "I see it as being a problem of Stevie's. Just like in her concerts, she won't stretch. She plays it too safe..."

This album is boring. The most interesting songs, in my opinion, are "New Orleans" and "For What It's Worth." And both are FLAT through the majority of the song and completely repetitive.
Those who are saying this is the best album of her career must be high. The only album WORSE than this is "The Other Side of the Mirror." I'd rather listen to "Street Angel." At least it's INTERESTING
Lastly - and I feel like this is a pretty daring thing to say about Stevie Nicks - I feel like I've heard it all before. Granted, I literally have heard some of these songs before (leaked through the internet in the early 2000s), others are the same themes, the same music, the same visuals, the same inflection, the same harmonies, etc, done (BETTER) by her a dozen times before.

That being said, I'm excited for the Lindsey Buckingham album in September.

Anonymous said...

Since you're very much in the minority Michelle I think it's obvious that if anyone is high here it's you. The majority of her fans and the majority of critics are saying this is the best Nicks album ever. Deal with it.

People who say its over for Stevie can't be a big fan of her then :-)
