Nice song. Who os the 18 year old she's talking about, who "danced with the devil"? Anyone have a longer recording of the intro or more information?
Her god-son
About 14 months ago, her 18 year-old godson overdosed at a party and died. He "danced with the devil". This was around the same time that her mother passed away.
Love the music. Lyrics sound a little cheesy.
But it's SO GREAT to see her with a band like this!
I've grown tired of those glasses. Someone get Stevie to Warby Parker!
the recording just may end up to be amazing- i had audio level issues listening, but it seems like very strong classic rock material- with major vocal chops from sln midway. can't wait to buy it!
as a vacuous aside, i was very amused to hear the 'we love you stevie' husky voiced gal- i have her voice on so many liveclips, and she always yells it out in the same tone, she's like the 'ut-oh' lady from 'I Love Lucy'-- but lucy's mom always said it when lucy ricardo was about to get into trouble- the 'we love you stevie' gal always yells it at the wrong time, note stevie's cringe and sped up speech- but silly as it all is, the 'we love you stevie' gal is part of many good stevie live clips hearing her now always makes me laugh. she's still around...
GOOD preview to a possibly great song- never dance with the devil, not only good advice, but now...
the witch rumour ends forever. .
^^ Who says that 'Witches' really do 'Dance with the Devil'??? ^^
Love the new song preview! Really like the classic rock feel of it, intertwined with the mystical 'Crystalline' sound and ending... Can't wait to hear the real thing, and the other forthcoming new songs from Fleetwood Mac! I will see them at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on May 26 ... Mick Fleetwood VIP Meet&Greet ... Stevie Nick's Birthday! : )
...The only thing that would make the night any better, is if Christine McVie mustered up the courage to fly in and join the Mac the same evening! ...one can only hope and dream, and believe in miracles!
Freakin awesome!!!!
the first Stevie song in an long time that really gives me goosebumbs again....LOVE it!!!
Okay. I think I got most of this right … at least I hope so.
Here are the tentative lyrics to “You Can’t Fix This” (Dancing with the Devil) by Stevie Nicks & the Sound City Players from what I can decipher from the live video performance. This is a really great song with many diverse sounds, with sort of a ‘Hotel California’ vibe… Several parts - marked (?) - I’m not too sure if the words are transcribed correctly, so, for what it’s worth, here it is : )
YOU CAN’T FIX THIS ~ STEVIE NICKS
We don’t talk much about it
It goes back so many years
All the times we almost didn’t make it
We stayed clear
Dancing with the Devil
Call it respect
Call it fear
But we never allowed the Devil, to come to the party
We’re careful in our own way
We walk through the darkness
With a path-find(?) to dance with the Devil, even when the Devil, seemed to have a heart
He said we’d never be sorry, for what occurred(?), but we never allowed the Devil, to come to the party
You can’t fix this
You lost a friend
Heart’s breaking
Black lamb(?)
Let him play like that!(?)
And the Devil pours another glass
It’s so easy
The Devil pours a glass of champagne
Asks someone new to dance
It’s so easy to ruin people’s lives
He twirls around and starts to laugh
Tear up the invitation
Hear the bells ring on the hour
He twirls around and he laughs
He said we’d never be sorry for what occurred(?)
But we never allowed the Devil to come to the party
You can’t fix this
You lost your friend
Heart’s breaking
White lamb(?)
Let him pray no more!(?)
And the Devil pours another glass
No we never allowed the Devil to come to the party
No we said that we would never be sorry, for what we had done
Never come to the party, if …(?) ...don’t come home
Never dance with the Devil!
We will burn you down!
Never Dance with the Devil!
He will burn you down!
Never dance with the Devils
He will burn you down!
Never Dance with the Devil!
He will burn you down!
You can’t fix this
You can’t fix this
No, you can’t fix this
You can’t fix this
You can’t fix this
No, no, no, no, no, no
Thanks for posting the lyrics!!!!!! Much appreciated- I am sure in time we will know all of them for sure.
Its a reference from the 70's Heroin was the devil you didnt want to dance with... Mick once made the statement, that thank god he didnt do opium drugs... scary. This is a good message to todays younger drug crowd.
I thought it was posted that Glen Parish Jr. Died from alcohol at a college aged party near UCLA? Now, we are assuming it was heroin?
The "dancing with the devil" phrase was used in the 1970's as a reference to heroin, but Stevie's reference in the song might simply be as playing "Russian roulette" with the combination of drugs and alcohol (with her champagne reference in the song). It's a sad, sensitive topic we should treat with care and respect here, since family and friends of Glen will probably be mourning his loss for the rest of their lives.
sounds like a pretty song but sorry the instruments over power stevie voice and so it makes it very hard to follow her with her story telling to the song!!!
Exactly Brian. Sound mixing. Not that I'm whining, but the band wasn't in perfect pitch. A little sharp, which made it more challenging for Stevie than you're getting from the video.
This is such a great classic-rock song. One of her best in years. I have a feeling this will end up on many SN fans' top-fave song lists.
... okay people let's try to refrain from over-critiquing one fracking performance, poorly recorded with someone's personal i-phone! It's really annoying when individuals start judging the music, instruments, sound, voice, etc., from a crappy YouTube video filmed with a cell phone from the audience!!! Seriously?
i-phone or not, I LOVE this new song, and I can't wait to hear it like it was meant to be when the real thing comes out next month! : )
Go Stevie!
This sounds like a modern, underdeveloped (because it's new) version of Gold Dust Woman.
Number 18, we love the new song too, don't get us wrong. A cellphone does a surprisingly decent job recording. Compare the two phone recordings of this song. Do they sound different? Not much, except one was closer to the vocal monitor. You can still hear the general mixing, instrumental and vocal levels from these cellphone recordings. Like you, I can't wait to hear the studio version!
I think the song is awesome. I'm the one who recorded this (from a camera, not a phone). It is available in 1080p if you use the little gear icon on the bottom right of the player. She basically said that her godson passed away about 14 months ago from "dancing with the devil". I got the idea that he passed away from a heroin overdose. Back to the song. I think this version is great, especially since she had only played it one time live, up at Sundance. The mix was pretty good at this LA show, much better than the Sundance mix. At Sundance, she was so far down in the mix, you could barely hear her. Enjoy the song and please feel free to comment on the video on YouTube.
Not blaming stevie #18 its the band that over powered her and her voice! the ipod phone had nothing 2 do with the sound mixing.
I've only watched this once. I must reply immediately. Holy cow, I just had the same visceral reaction that I had in 1983 while listening to Wild Heart (the SONG) for the very first time. Wow. I LOVE LOVE LOVE this song. This is the Stevie Nicks poet and vocalist we all fell in love with when she started her solo career. Alive and well. Keep those creative juices flowing beloved woman.
Great song "You Cant Fix This". I thought this kind of music of Stevie Nicks was gone. Songs on the radio one here, one there gets a thumbs up (for years), but Stevie Nicks music and setting makes mystery, mystery from everyday life is ok with me as I myself older and more and more everyday.
The lyrics are:
"Hearts Breaking, right and left"
Thanks ... been hearing this on the radio and was sure it was Stevie but they never said.... looked here and it was confirmed.. thanks for posting.
