McVie was part of the group from the 1970s to the '90s, writing and performing some of their biggest hits.
Nicks told BBC Radio 4's Woman's Hour that McVie, who left the group in 1998, would perform one song at two concerts.
The tour begins with two shows in Dublin on Friday 20 September followed by a further three in London.
Nicks told Woman's Hour:
"She is going to come and do a song on the second two shows. I think it will probably be Don't Stop. I don't know, but she's coming to Ireland to rehearse with us."
Nicks did not clarify which two shows she was referring to. A spokesman for the group said he could not confirm the details.
Don't Stop was McVie's biggest US hit as a songwriter, reaching number three in 1977.
The news comes despite comments from Nicks last December, saying of a possible return by McVie: "There's no more a chance of that happening than an asteroid hitting the Earth."
Nicks, however, went on to explain that her British former bandmate "doesn't want to fly" and "doesn't want to come back to America", which may explain why she has agreed to appear at a couple of UK shows but not their US dates earlier this year.
Born Christine Perfect, she married Fleetwood Mac bassist John McVie and joined the group in 1971.
With the recruitment of Nicks and her boyfriend Lindsey Buckingham in 1975, the group morphed from British blues rockers to freewheeling California-based pop heavyweights.
They were also known for their tangled internal relationships. The McVies divorced in 1976 and Nicks and Buckingham split up shortly afterwards. Their romantic tensions inspired the album Rumours, which has sold 19 million copies in the US.
During the Woman's Hour interview, to be broadcast at 10:00 BST (09:00 GMT) on Monday, Nicks told presenter Jane Garvey: "Both of us in a man's world, from the very beginning, we made a pact that we would be a force of nature together. And we were.
"We had a lot of power when there were two of us. That wasn't really so noticeable to us because we just had it until she left.
"And then when she left I realised how much power we had when she was there, and how when she left she took 50% of the power with her… I felt powerless in many ways."
Okay... So does Stevie mean Christine will be playing the 2nd Dublin gig? She mentions "second two shows"? which kinda makes sense as there are two Dublin shows and hence the reason Christine is willing to fly to Ireland to rehearse?
Or does Stevie mean the 2nd and 3rd London shows? If she does, then the London audience reading this going to the first show only will feel really left out! I think if she's going to perform in London.... Christine MUST do all three shows.
Heaven!! I can only be there in spirit, heart & soul ~ FM, including the great Christine Perfect McVie... oh but I can dream :D London town!!
ReplyDeleteHow I read it is the second 2 London shows. Since there are 3 in London.
ReplyDeleteHate to say I told you so, but...
ReplyDeleteIt's sweet that she's performing 1 song with them but it's hardly earth-shattering. Stevie's "asteroid" comment pertained to Chris re-joining the band, which she's definitely NOT doing. There's no contradiction here.
It actually makes me feel a little sad because it's just a tiny taste oh what we all want.
While it's still possible that Chris could play on an upcoming album, that's also hard to imagine because it would have to be recorded in England and that would be prohibitively expensive (none of the other 4 live there) given that it wouldn't likely recoup the costs even if it sold well.
And I doubt Lindsey would leave Kristen and the kids for the 6 months - 1 year it would take to record a Fleetwood Mac album - especially one for which expectations would be at an all-time high.
ReplyDeleteI think Lindsey would absolutely do another album with FM, and in fact, wants to do another album. He's got a great home studio where the band has done a lot of their recording, including their new EP. He wouldn't have to leave his family to record an album.
ReplyDeleteI think it makes more sense that Christine will be performing at the London shows, of which I believe the third show date was just added not to long ago... the band originated in the UK and there have been allusions to Christine performing the London shows which would be professionally filmed... it seems realistic that Christine would do all three London dates and then they would take the best footage from these performances and put it together as some sort of 'reunion' concert package... which would be phenomanal!
ReplyDeleteRegarding the potential for Christine possibly recording another album with the Mac, I don't see that happening, but if she wanted to contribute, she wouldn't have to actually record her parts with the band physically... in this day and age, an album could be recorded without her ever leaving the comfort of the recording studio in her own home, and then her work could be put together with the rest of the band's... they don't have to actually record together in person...
I can't wait to see what actually happens in London!!! You'd think Christine would also do 'Songbird' for the finale... I guess we'll have to wait and see what Magic the Mac has up their sleeves :)
I was pretty much expecting this. Stevie's comment leaves it open that she MAY perform more than one. If she does anything else besides "Don't Stop" I could see her closing the shows with "Songbird."
ReplyDeleteAs for new music, I don't expect it, I certainly don't see her working on a new Mac album. At most the band could release a second 'EP' with one contribution from her. It wouldn't surprise me if they've already jammed a couple new tunes out while rehearsing.
Given that she and the band have stated since 1998 that she's done, this is pretty big news. Perhaps Christine wants to "get her feet wet" before wading in deeper.
Who knows. All I know is they better film these shows.
I understand that she doesn't need to physically be present in order to appear on the same recording, but it wouldn't truly be a band effort otherwise. Not in the sense that their 5 famous albums were - a group of dedicated musicians holed up together in the studio for the duration, hoping to capture magic. If that's not the creative process, then it's not truly an FM album in my mind. Because Chris doesn't want to travel and doesn't want to be in L.A., it would have to be done in the U.K.. I just doesn't feel like it will happen...
ReplyDeletetheres been comments made in the last year or so that chris got very nervous while on stage as they all do I am sure.So that being said I don't know about songbird at the end of the shows because that is a solo with her piano and not doing this for 15 years not so sure that will happen she will be to nervous doing that solo.
ReplyDeleteChristine has her own recording studio as well, if I'm not mistaken.
ReplyDeleteDon't forget that it has been confirmed by Mick's management that Christine has been writing again..
ReplyDeleteThis is sad news in a way, but also good news in a big way. We should be thankful she's going to perform at all. PLEASE somebody record it!!
Jeez people, it's not that hard to figure out. I knew Chris would only be performing one or two songs and it is obviously the second and third shows in London. And that will most definitely be it. End of story. Lots of press for the band and Chris and then she "Goes her own way" so to speak.
ReplyDeleteI've got another take on this: There are 2 shows in Dublin - these are the first 2. The "second 2 shows" are therefore Tue 24th & Wed 25th in London.
ReplyDeleteHope I'm right - will be in London on the 24th!!
Yeah well this just confirms the US and the UK are still two countries seperated by a common langusge!!!
ReplyDeleteI would love her to do the second show in Dublin but a girl can dream eh?
