Singer and songwriter says she would like to return to band she left 15 years ago – if they want her back
The Guardian
When Christine McVie joined her old band, Fleetwood Mac, onstage during their recent shows at the O2 in London, it was billed as little more than a special treat for fans.
Yet the group's singer, keyboardist and songwriter seems to have caught the bug and has said she would like to rejoin permanently. "I like being with the band, the whole idea of playing music with them," she said. "I miss them all. If they were to ask me I would probably be very delighted … but it hasn't happened so we'll have to wait and see."
McVie was with the band for 28 years before quitting in 1998. "I think I was just music'd out," she said. "I suffered from some kind of delusion that I wanted to be an English country girl, a Sloane Ranger or something … and it took me 15 years to realise that it's not really what I wanted at all."
McVie was the band's main songwriter and central to its transformation from a blues group to the current incarnation featuring Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham that created the pop-oriented sound behind huge-selling albums such as Rumours and Tango in the Night. McVie wrote Don't Stop, Songbird and Everywhere, among many others.
She has never before expressed regrets about leaving and has spent the past decade living a reclusive life in a
17th-century mansion in Kent. Despite this, she thrilled fans during Fleetwood Mac's current tour by joining the band for a run-through of Don't Stop. McVie said playing with the band again was like riding a bike. "It was amazing, like I'd never left. I climbed back on there again and there they were, the same old faces on stage."

Fleetwood Mac are on a tour break after cancelling several Australian and New Zealand dates after news that their bassist, John McVie, has cancer. They plan to resume touring when he is better. McVie said her ex-husband's prognosis was "really good. He's having his treatment in LA right now, but they caught it really early so he should be up and running in a couple of months."
Nicks has often said she wants Christine McVie to rejoin. However, recent reports suggest guitarist Buckingham is worried her appearance could steal the limelight. McVie said this was "fair enough. From his point of view, it was a business thing. [Promoters] would be asking why I wasn't playing in Amsterdam or Berlin. They obviously wanted headlines about them, not me, and I quite agree with that."
McVie accepts rejoining is a long way off. "It's a long way down that path if it ever were to happen. John's got to get well first, so it hasn't been talked about. We'll have to wait and see."
Her remarks were made in a Guardian interview with her and Nicks to be published later this year. During the interview, in which they discuss their friendship, their decadent 1970s lifestyle and experiences of sexism in the music industry.

Back in 2002, Christine wanted to contribute a 1/3 number of songs to the Say You Will CD, but Mick, in an interview, said "No. If you are not committed to going on the road to support the project, then there is no reason to have you on the album". He further stated that if one of Christine's songs became a hit, the fans would expect to hear it in concert. She didn't want to tour.
ReplyDeleteAround the time of Say Your Will - we got In The Meantime - probably the songs on there would have been her contribution to Say You Will.
It would be a great motivation to get another studio album out of the Mac - personally, I hope it happens.
Yes yes yes oh yes
ReplyDeleteyes of course!!!!!
ReplyDeleteLindsey will be the problem to overcome. He likes the 50/50 stage time split he gets with Stevie. Having Christine back will dilute that. He has said in the past she made her bed, she must lie in it....we'll see. Personally I would love it and hope John is better and Christine rejoins in time for the Glastonbury headline slot which seemed almost nailed on.
ReplyDeleteGreat news. If nothing else, this sort of seals the deal for Christine to be a part of a new studio album.
ReplyDeleteMy only regret is that I didn't see them this year, and everyone seems to agree they were playing like it was 1982. I love Chris, but she's not the most energizing on stage.
It will be a nice we to end things for sure, because I think we can all agree that there isn't a lot of time left for Fleetwood Mac.
OMG,that would be the best news all year! Christine is my favorite of the band and it's been so sad over the years knowing she's not been with them. Her songs and sound make Fleetwood Mac what they are. I'm sure Lindsay could come up with a compromise they'd all be happy with. It would be totally nuts not to let her rejoin. Stevie is all for it,I'm sure she can talk some sense into Lindsay!
ReplyDeleteIs there even a question? Of course all the true diehard Mac fans would love it! We love them all!
ReplyDeleteOMG YES YES YES !!!! The Songbird is back!!!!
ReplyDeleteYes
ReplyDeleteI say yes as long as Stevie gets as many songs as each of the others on a future album. Bt before then let's get the 1973 Buckingham Nicks reissue done!
ReplyDeleteI always liked the songs that Christine and Lindsey worked together on like World Turning and Think About Me. If John heals up, I believe it will happen. However, I've got to say that Christine has lost a lot of her range judging from the O2 performance. A natural part of aging, but it will probably require some key changes.
ReplyDeleteYes! I seem to remember Lindsey leaving for some years..
ReplyDeleteWould be great to see them all together.
I really miss that 3rd voice on The Chain & Dreams. Please come back, Christine.
ReplyDeleteI don't think Lindsey will be a big obstacle if Christine wants to come back full time. His hesitation to her appearances in London were because she wasn't coming back full time. And so what if Lindsey doesn't want to give up half the stage spotlight. If Christine says "I am ready to come back full time" Lindsey could not stop her; Stevie, Mick, and John will outnumber him. Mick has said many times he'd love for Christine to want to return and that the door would be open.
ReplyDeleteI think Lindsey's London comments were taken out of context.
YES! Even The Beatles were better with 3 strong songwriters. Make it so!
ReplyDeletePlus Lindsey would be quite the hypocrite since he left just before the band committed to a world tour in '87. I'm fairly certain Christine finished out the Dance tour before announcing her retirement. Christine's return would also be great for the band commercially. I don't think they'll ever return to the Top 40 airplay they used to enjoy (music has changed too much) but most of their solid radio hits were written by Christine. Lindsey had three very popular vocal collaborations with Christine - "World Turning," "Don't Stop," and "Hold Me." Finally - that three-part harmony was unbeatable!
ReplyDeleteJust quit Lindsey and come back to us solo for good! V.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad to hear Christine's report about John McVie and his cancer status. Hope he's up and touring SOON!
ReplyDeleteIf there's more FM in the future, which is unlikely since everyone is old and likely ready to drop dead, she must be there. They really are terrible both in the studio and on stage as a 4 piece; a flat iceberg.
ReplyDeleteIf she doesn't come back, I hope the rest don't either.
Oh Glenda, what a sour puss. I can only only assume you didn't see them live in 2013 to make such a ludicrous statement about their stage performances. Tut tut.
DeleteHow are FM terrible as a four piece?? And they are not about to drop dead.......What a stupid comment!!!
ReplyDeleteSay You Will was a "flat iceberg" ??? IMO it was the true follow-up to Rumours that was.a quarter of a century in the making. The return of CMcV can only add to this forever great band.
ReplyDeleteChristine should be able to come back if she wants. She let Lindsey in after all. :)
ReplyDeleteI would love it if she joined them at the MGM in Las Vegas. That would be incredible. I heard that John is doing well with his treatments (Thank God) and will probably play on Dec. 30th in Vegas. I would love to hear the entire group play together. That would be magic. Back on the chain gang.
ReplyDeleteFive incredible musicians indeed. Love them ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
How in the world could SYW have been "the true follow-up to Rumours that was a quarter of a century in the making"? No one, and I mean no one, can take the dynamic and the songs off Rumours and put them up against anything off SYW and say that there is even a modicum of evidence to say that one was the true follow-up to the other. Be honest, Jet, can you honestly say that anything the band has done since "The Dance" has even come close to "Dreams", "You Make Loving Fun" and "Go Your own Way" in not only commercial but artistic success? I won't deny that there has been some passably good music made since then but none of it can compare to back in the old days when FM was still good. How many die-hard fans can you find that will unequivocally say the music on SYW made them so? You'd be hard pressed to find one.
ReplyDeleteAs someone who has been a fan of Fleetwood Mac most likely longer than you have been alive (as there seem to be a dreadful amount of young Stevie wannabe fangirls around these days) I am afraid I have to agree with Glenda. FM without Christine is flat, uninteresting and just not as good. Period. If she doesn't come back, there's really no need for FM to continue.
I also agree with MpisMike that if Lindsey were to want to put his foot down and insist Christine could not come back to the band that would be pure hypocrisy at its finest. The band forgave and forgot after his whiny little TITN-era tantrums were over and done with. He was allowed to come back to the band that he never would have had a career without. Christine was part of Fleetwood Mac before anyone ever even had the slightest who Lindsey Buckingham was.
If the band wishes to continue and make one last record that will give them the commercial and artistic success they need to go out on a high note, they need to bring Christine back, let her work HER magic and put a leash on Buckingham.
right now they should be more concern about john mcvie health
ReplyDeleteYep!
Delete^^ I'm that one fan you are looking for regarding SYW drawing me in - some amazing stuff and less fluff than usual BN-era FM on that album.
ReplyDeleteLess fluff. Surely you can't be talking about Stevie's SYW songs.
ReplyDeleteLess fluff. Didn't say no fluff. ;)
ReplyDeleteLindsey took time off from the band and they had to hire someone else. If he can take time of so can she. She is an original member and should be allowed back in the band. I don't know why grudges need to be held against from any of them. I know I would love to see the full line up. I missed her at the shows.
ReplyDeleteTo the comment about Christine's range being off ... that happens with age if your instrument (your voice) is properly exercised. Stevie and Lindsey never stopped ... Christine still has a beautiful voice ... I'm sure some good vocal coaching would bring back her voice to its fullest potential. Plus, that's the first time she's performed live with the band since 1998. Cut the woman some slack!
ReplyDeleteYES!!!!! SHE NEEDS TO COME BACK!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI think something else that is being overlooked about Christine being "off" is that she was probably quite nervous. Just because she is an old pro at performing live doesn't mean she couldn't have had a major case of the jitters. That was the first time she was on stage on that scale in a long time. The shows she did in Hawaii were nothing compared to the number of people she was in front of in London. And Hawaii wasn't Fleetwood Mac. By my ears, yeah, she did start off a tad rough that first night but after a few seconds, she was fine Christine as she always was.
ReplyDeleteAnd if you have to fault Christine for her voice aging, you need to fault Lindsey and Stevie as well. They've aged and so has their voices. Stevie can't hit the high notes like she used to and that has ruined the impact of some of her songs live and she should retire them for songs she is more capable of singing. Same with Lindsey. It happens, folks. Let's face it, these guys are all senior citizens. When you are pushing 70 will YOU sound exactly the same as you did at 20, 30, or even 40 or 50?
Fleetwood Mac is great with Christine or without. Saw them twice this year and they packed the venues and the crowds loved the shows. They were anything but a flat iceberg. The magic really is still there. Maybe the negative people should stay home next time. Would love to see Christine back - would love to see her old songs again. I do agree that Lindsey would have NO room to stop her from coming back. I don't think he would get away with trying.
ReplyDeleteFleetwood Mac is suppose to replace guitarist not pianist. Bring back Christine McVie!!!!
ReplyDelete"Maybe the negative people should stay home next time."
ReplyDeleteAnd maybe you should stop being the fan police and stop telling others what to do.
Yes! Come back Christine! I love seeing the Mac but miss hearing many of Christines' songs. I have been praying for a full recovery for John. This scare had me has me cherishing this band more than ever. Wasn't it Christine that said something like the band goes out there and gives everything they got each night? In 2013 the Mac gave 2 1/2 hours of everything they got. Would love to see the magic of the five give it all they got just one more time!
ReplyDeleteI love Fleetwood mac, and it would be great for all of them if she came back.... Lindsey is in this band because of Fleetwood and he should riemember that. This isn't his band ... even though he acts like it.... remember Lindsey you left this band also for your reasons and the band welcomed you back..... at this age I life it is time to put down some of these jealousy's and controlling attitude!!! remember why you have the money you have.... because a gentle giant heard your music and needed a guitarist, .. maybe it doesn't always have to be the decision that is best for you, but whats best for the band... and it would do them all good to remember how they got there and take time to honor the 5 of them on stage again ...... don't know how many more times around you will get., so generosity should be first to those 4 other people that share the stage with you every night Lindsey since 1975....... you made it as three in the front, you can all do as well again three in the front.... you want the stage to yourself, that's what your solo career is for..... I hope Christine comes back... miss her voice!!!!
ReplyDeleteJust she is indispensable to a band and it is existence of best uniquely.
ReplyDeleteIf it realizes, the fan in the world will do a passionate welcome!
Have you seen some of the interviews with Lindsey from several years ago talking about "When it was established that Stevie was the star...."? Very bitter and very resentful....he couldn't hide it. This is little more than Lindsey Buckingham's over-inflated ego talking. Christine was the pillar of that band...and her absence was noticeably missed on "Say You Will." HER songs (and Stevie's) were what made the band so wonderful when they were climbing the ladder to success. Lindsey contributed....especially in production....and he is a really good guitarist....but his ego bursts the balloons all over his contributions. He's a little too self important and I really feel that HE is the one who could be replaced and wouldn't be nearly as missed. (Remember "Behind the Mask"? Great album....Rick Vito and Billy Burnette were awesome!!! I'd love to see them come back!) CHRISTINE SHOULD COME BACK and bring this awesome band back to the sound we all love so much.
ReplyDeleteWhere the heck does Lindsey get off having this attitude where Christine is concerned, should she want to come back to what was once her band...then she should! Who the hell are you to think she needs YOUR permission! Remember that New Years Eve back in 1974 when you and Stevie were struggling artists??? You need to really get over yourself...and really thank your lucky stars that Mick, John and Chris asked you to join...in truth Stevie is the one that gave the band the fame ...Not you! Oh..and I agree Behind the Mask was a great album...I loved Rick and Billy and that group seemed to get on very well...I hated the fact that you returned and more so...that you just had to put your spin on and ruin Stevie's song... Smile At You...on the Say You Will cd. I thought Behind the Mask album was one of the best albums that Fleetwood Mac did. I'm not saying that you are not blessed with a great talant....but your ego gets in the way!
ReplyDeletePlease Chris come back to the Mac....you have been missed !
Welcome back Christine!!!! You have been MISSED!!!!! You'll whip this band into shape!!!! I am so glad you are back - you don't know how much you've been missed!!! Fleetwood Mac finally has a real infusion of energy and a new sense of purpose. The Christine/Lindsey dynamic was musically as powerful as the Stevie/Lindsey dynamic - and I'm sure Lindsey is curios what new hit they might create. Their greatest collaboration was HOLDE ME - to this day an amazing feat of production, musicianship, singing and hard work.
ReplyDeleteIs it not Mick Fleetwood who has the final word on who is in the band?
ReplyDelete"I hated the fact that you returned and more so...that you just had to put your spin on and ruin Stevie's song... Smile At You...on the Say You Will cd,"
ReplyDeleteThank you for saying what needed to be said here. The demo/outtake versions of Smile at You were brilliant and leagues ahead of what finally ended up on SYW. All of the power the original song had was gone once Lindsey got his hands on it. I absolutely can't listen to the SYW version because it's so bad. I can fully understand any anger Stevie had post-SYW as all of her songs were miserably ruined. Well, all of them except Silver Girl. I can't imagine that one ever being good.
"Is it not Mick Fleetwood who has the final word on who is in the band?"
While I'd like to think the Fleetwood and the Mac is who has the final say, I believe everyone gets a vote/voice as to who can come in. If I remember correctly, before Mick brought Billy and Rick into the band after Lindsey threw his little hissy fit, he asked the remaining band members what they thought. He got their opinions then the decision was made. It was the same way when Lindsey and Stevie were in consideration. No doubt the band is discussing this, or already have. I think they'll hear what Lindsey has to say but hopefully, if he starts getting too big for his britches they will knock him down a few notches and remind him of his history with the band. He needs to step back and realize that he is NOT Fleetwood Mac. He is simply a member the same as Stevie. No one member should ever be more important than any other. Lindsey does have a massive ego and I think it's something he's always had. Fame and success simply kicked it into overdrive.
I, too loved Behind the Mask! I love and adore Rick Vito's music and would be very happy to see him back with the band. Even if it were just for a limited run of shows as I know Lindsey would never stand for another lead guitarist in the band at the same time he is. I'd give my left kidney for Rick and Stevie to do Desiree live just one time and a crystal clear recording of it surface on the Internet. And none of those half-hearted performances either, Stevie. Sing it like you still care!
Yes .. having Chris back would would mean that the Mac is truly back! .. who cares what the press will say .. if they all want to play together then play together
ReplyDeleteIt's like a dream...Christine "wants" to join FM? She IS FM!!!!! Welcome Christine McVie back to Fleetwood Mac...you have been missed by so many people for soooooo many reasons!!!!!
ReplyDeleteChristine McVie is back!!!! I never thought it would happen.
ReplyDeleteFleetwood Mac never ceases to astound.
Yes, come back Christine! We would love it! I don't think you care about the cash so much, but more for the music. You are the real deal! Thanks for the hope that we can once again call you a member of FM.
ReplyDeleteYes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes. There is no question if Chris wants to rejoin the band then she should. The magic of Fleetwood Mac is those three singers together harmonizing. They were a three ring circus and then Lindsey left, and they became a two ring one. He returned for The Dance, then Chris left. Bring back the Mac that was the biggest band in the world.
ReplyDeleteI always hoped that Chris would eventually get bored and realize she was in a great band, something most people would give anything for, and she was wasting her life in seclusion. Thank goodness she has come to her senses. I wonder if John's illness has made her figure out that there is a limited number of years for them anyway, they are getting older, and time was running out.
A great day if it happens ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !
Is that really a question?? the band is complete with Lindsey being back on stage...Fleetwood mac are by far the best band ever...
ReplyDeleteI was totally gutted they cancelled Australia's tour but I do wish John all the best and have a speedy recovery... cant wait to see them soon :)
Sorry... me again... must get it right... I meant Chrissie to be back in the band...duh!
ReplyDeleteyes
ReplyDeleteI think it's already in the works. This would never have gone to press unless lots of talking had been done...they know what she wants.
ReplyDeleteLindsey should help them where it's needed, this need to take over everyone is bullshit!. I agree on a couple of things, 1: Christine's voice is not all that different than it was. 2. SYW was a mediocre album, and smile at you was butchered. It's true they aren't getting younger but, it's fitting that even if they tour one last time, and make a new album Christine should be on it. This will also reinvigorate Stevie. We'll have to wait and see but, I think it's in the works. Come on back Christine! We love and have missed you. John you're the greatist. Get well!
Well like lindsey been saying there is a few more chapters left with fleetwood mac, I think lots of you people are over reacting with lindsey does not want chris back. What was said when chris wanted to come and play in the uk it was in the middle of there tour and it was going to take alot of reshersing putting chris in there and steal the work that was already done from city to city. the media would of been all about chris rather than all the work that was done for about 6 months. Heres what I think is going to happen Chris may play in las vegas cuz they are getting an award for 35 yrs of rumors and it would be only fitting that Chris is apart of that and who knows after holidays they could put something together for a new album since Lindsey has his work done it would take a few stevie songs and Chris was surpose too have a new solo peice coming soon. So maybe she was some work already done and the few songs lindsey has for the ep already released. it will would not take too long for them all put an album out. maybe 2months and then tour off it this summer, assumiing that John will be up to doing that. yes I think John becoming sick has influenest Chris in coming back!!!
ReplyDeleteI think also, to some degree, Chris always kept Lindsey in check. I got the sense he relished her time away and will have to do some readjusting once she returns. Always a fluid and interesting dynamic with those five!
ReplyDeletenow we can here those beautiful songs again howbout songbird of course, maybe hold me,think about me,over and over, as long as you follow, little lies, say you love me, over my head, love in store, skies the limit, you make love fun, everywhere, all these off the top of my head.
ReplyDelete^Oh How I would absolutely love to hear Think about me as the opener to a new concert tour. Love that song. I hope they work out all the details soon. I wish John a speedy recovery. Hopefully they could tour behind a new studio album. This would be so GREAT!
ReplyDeleteRe the comment that CMcV/FM let Linds back in - well of course he was let back in, they were crap without him :P
ReplyDeleteI want Peter Green and Jeremy back. I am I the only one who wants this?
ReplyDelete*Am I the only one who wants this?
ReplyDelete"Re the comment that CMcV/FM let Linds back in - well of course he was let back in, they were crap without him :P"
ReplyDeleteUm, no they weren't. Fleetwood Mac was making great music long before Buckingham ever joined and they continued to make it long after he was gone. You do know that when you look at sales, Behind the Mask performed just as well, and even better in some figures, than Say You Will did. BTM went platinum in the UK. Something SYW couldn't do. Both records received Gold status in the United States. BTM topped the charts in the #1 position where SYW only made it to #6. BTM made it to #9 in Australia where SYW could only manage to crawl up to #24. SYW made it to #3 on the Billboard 200 chart and BTM made it to #18.
If Behind the Mask was "crap" and should be forgotten the way so many have (including Mick) why did it perform so well in so many countries? The US is not the world so, yes, the figures from other countries matter. Fleetwood Mac was not "crap" without Lindsey.
We all have our preferences but you know what? It's OK to like something new. It's OK to go beyond what's hot and commercially successful. It's OK to beyond Rumours even though that seems to be the only record in the entire history of the band that EVER gets flogged to death.
Personally myself, I don't think Lindsey coming back to the band in 1997 had a single thing to do with him "being at the right place in his life" or having "worked through anything" or "gone on a spiritual journey" during his time off. He didn't grow or change as a person. He's still the same arrogant control freak he's always been. As much as I cringe to say this, what led to the Rumours-era Fleetwood Mac getting back together was Bill Clinton adopting "Don't Stop" as his campaign song. The band re-uniting and performing that one song at his inauguration led to Lindsey pulling in his horns long enough for the band to get another seven years or so of touring and music under their belt. Remember all the interviews Stevie gave around that time and the few years afterwards where she talked about how they all felt that "old magic again"? The Dance was massively commercially successful and you can't overlook that. That reunion was just as much (if not moreso) financially motivated as it was creatively motivated. Getting together that one time made them realize they were better with all five together and that all five needed to be there for the original Rumours-era dynamic to be in place. Don't Stop suffers severely without Christine. You can't do Gold Dust Woman without Stevie. Don't thank Mick, Christine, John, Stevie or even Lindsey's so-called "change of heart" due to all those "cycles". Thank Bill Clinton for having your precious Lindsey back.
It was also the way Lindsey left. It's a big deal and unprofessional to leave a band just before a major tour. Arenas were booked, press releases were going out. So....he did some serious stuff. I'm sure they've made up!
ReplyDeleteI'll only say it once, while separately they are great musicians....together then and now they are pure magic. ..once in a lifetime will a fleetwood mac type situation come along for any band. These 5 never have never lost it.
should they "let" Christine back? I think she can do what she wants. It will be amazing!
^^^
ReplyDeleteNo, you're not the only one who would like to see some of the old crowd back, but I think the thing is, that era is surely over in every way possible. The FM the world is still mildly interested in is the well known pop-era variety. The nostalgia act. The others are important to some of us, but getting a FM that includes Peter, Danny, or Jeremy is about as likely as getting a FM that includes Bob Welch.
"I want Peter Green and Jeremy back. I am I the only one who wants this? "
ReplyDeleteIt would be nice to see Greeny back on stage with the band he created. He's still very much alive and making music. I'm not sure if Jeremy Spencer is still active in music like Peter but he is still with us.
I thought for sure when Fleetwood Mac celebrated it's 30th or even 40th anniversary that they might get as many of the band members together for a one-off show. Even the induction into the R&RHOF would have been an excellent place for that. That is, if ALL the members who made the band good enough and popular enough to actually make it into the HOF were allowed to be there.
I'd say you could be hopeful that if everyone who is alive today is still alive and kicking come the 50th anniversary of the band that an event like this could happen but I wouldn't hold my breath. It will be a celebration of Rumours, unfortunately. I guess to the band, their history began with that record.
Of course she should come back !
ReplyDeleteIt's not FM without her.
ReplyDelete"Warm Ways" was the wife's and I wedding song...Hell Yes!
ReplyDeleteAbso-friggin-lutely let her back in! Those three voices together created a lovely fourth voice where all that magic came from. I've missed Ms. Perfect and you have too
ReplyDeleteABSOLUTELY!
ReplyDeleteI agree with Forrest, a big YES !
ReplyDeleteYES!! We want Christine back ASAP - miss her so much!!
ReplyDeleteIs this a trick question? Of course you let her back in!
ReplyDeleteYes! Dump Stevie, and bring back Christine. Stevie Nicks sounds like the Chipmunks older sister.
ReplyDeleteYES!
ReplyDeleteYES! Will be buying FM music again!!
Yes! Yes! ⌛
ReplyDeleteIt is a non decision. The band was at its best while she was with them. When she comes back the band will Be even greater than they ever have been.
ReplyDeleteFleeywood Mac is a washed up bunch of no talent pos's. This old hag coming back isnt going to help at all. They should call the Casino's now. That's all these clowns are good for.
ReplyDeleteSure that's why they sold out most citys without chris ya there are washed up,thats why they are selling tickets all in there mid sixties only the rolling stones are as good. Now with chris in place it well only better. And to the post about stevie go ahead take stevie out of the picture and see where fm goes I bet it will not be a huge success. I take my home for a bet on that one
ReplyDeleteThe trio of great singer songwriters was what made the band so great during their peak years. It would be nice for them and their fans if they reunited for their swansong years.
ReplyDeleteLindsey was a GREAT guitarist and in harmony was very good. SOLO he sucks. Stevie was beautiful in every way possible in her given style both SOLO and in harmony. She was and still is Great out front. Mick was never acknowledged for his greatness on DRUMS and his leadership of the whole thing. There will never be another John Mcvie on Bass Guitar. He stayed out of the limelight and did his thing exceptionally well. But,when it comes to the bottom line, Christine was the glue that made and held the whole Fleetwood Mac thing together. I am not especially fond of some of her peersonality quircks but I love her voice and her music and if it were not for Christine McVie there would never have been a Fleetwood Mac as we know it. I really love what she did and thank her from the bottom of my heart for the wonderful memories and I would welcome her back to the band with open arms if it is really what she wants to do but after all this time I really think that the graceful thing for her to do is bow out gracefully.
ReplyDeletePeople should stop talking about them "dying" and making a "last" album as if that were a factor in the first place. They're huge role models for me and I feel so much less afraid to get "old" because it obviously doesn't mean anything except a few negative mean people might try to rain on your parade. They're at a huge height right now, look absolutely awesome and have so much more material and experience to contribute. It's plain awesome that Christine wants to rejoin- a serious dream come true!!
ReplyDeletelindsey needs to come down off his high horse and realizr Christine can only add TO and not take away FROM the band cmoin man.. her voice and her songs were very distincgtive .. get real and realize it wasnt all just about you Lindsey
ReplyDeleteYes please
ReplyDeleteThere is only one answer - YES!!!!!
ReplyDeleteabsolutely!
ReplyDeleteI revisited SAY YOU WILL last night - playing the entire CD from start to finish (something I don't think I did after the first day of release) and I really enjoyed the experience.
ReplyDeleteIt's a great disc overall. I still have trouble with three things and I always will:
1. Silver Girl. Ugh...aweful lyrics but pleasant musical backing track;
2. Smile at You. The vocal key for Stevie is too high and I don't have any clue how this got past all of the band members. Again, musically it's goid and the background vocals are good.
3. Stevie's sound on Destiny Rules on the very beginning of the song. Once the music kicks in, the song is good.
SYW - give it a listen again. You may be surprised how much you enjoy it.
I saw them when they first got Christine, it's more her band than that west coast duo. Put her in!
ReplyDeleteI am all about putting her in and I think it will happen. Yes she was there first but you have to be kidding if you think this band would as successful without buckingham nicks you are out of your tree! As for syw album it pretty good if you listen to it with regularity for a while. I think it pretty good yes there maybe a few cuts that are someone least favorite but over all pretty good.. Lets all remember we are never going to get another rumors album. Those kinds of albums come once in a lifetime. Exspeaically at there age.
ReplyDeleteMaybe it is an over reaction, I can't imagine how Lindsey could be so arrogant as to think that FM wouldn't benefit from the return of Christine. She is sure about who she is and her music reflects it. The weird trips into Lindsey discovering new musical genres just don't work - his solo work is what it is but when he's back with 'The big machine' it suffers without Christine's musicality and I think Fleetwood Mac would be a more diverse and improved band than it has been on the tours without Christine. So, without anal debate - let's encourage her back!

ReplyDeleteEveryone is so mean in the big bad world! Is Diddims OK? Get a grip on yourself.
If you think pointing out that someone is OLD is mean then you really need to stop reading. They are old. They could die. They may record a "last" album. There are far harsher truths than those that you need to face. Here's a couple now ... LB can't sing anymore and hides it by whispering and twiddling and humping his guitar. SN can't sing anymore either and hides it by changing songs to totally unrecognizable melodies and shouting lyrics. I think it's because they're both so incredibly O-L-D!

ReplyDeleteI hate to break it to you, kid, but they ARE old. The baby of the group is 64. While that's not ancient, it still isn't a springs chicken. When even some of the band members themselves have talked about only one more album, there's no reason to expect fans to not talk about the very same thing. How many members of Fleetwood Mac have we lost already? Do you think it's unrealistic to think that anything could happen with any of the remaining members of the band? They won't live forever and Stevie is already apparently being plagued by some of the common problems of old age. She's been sick a lot the past few years leading to more than one cancelled show with both FM and her solo tours.
I think it's great that the band members might feel they can go on forever but I think they are being optimistic and perhaps running on the adrenaline rush they get from being in front of a crowd. Both Stevie and Lindsey DO have serious range issues with their voices. As the poster above said, Stevie hides these issues by changing the songs to suit her limitations. If you are a new fan, you probably won't give it much thought, but those of us that have followed the band for years, even decades, we DO notice that. For me, personally, Sisters of the Moon was rubbish on this tour. Stevie's vocal limitations and tendency to shout her vocals these days stripped it of its intensity and power. It would have better been left on the shelf to be remembered for the amazing song it was back when she could still hit the all-important notes that gave it its power.
We need to face it that the people who made the music that brought us all here have aged. They can't do some of the things they used to. That's just a fact of life. It happens to all musicians. Pick any long-term musician still in the business today and you will not hear the same now that you heard 20, 30 or 40 years ago.
One album is all that Fleetwood Mac realistically has left in them. They better make it good. And to do that, they need Christine McVie if they want even a glimpse of the former magic they used to have. There will never be another Rumours because, as Brian said, that happens once in a lifetime. With her back, though, they might be able to come close. She can keep Lindsey's attitude in check. She might even be able to give Stevie a reason to care about the music again.
Fleetwood Mac without Christine is a shadow of its former self.
They all have such wonderful individual voices, but there's nothing better than the sound of the Nicks, Buckingham, McVie blend… I've missed her voice rounding out the others!!
ReplyDeleteWhy does this piece ask should they let her back in? I don't think that should even be a thing considered! I'm wondering if it's humility or what. But Chris keep saying" if they ask me.
ReplyDeleteanyhow it doesn't matter how old they are, as long as they can play music.....more power to them. While this major touring may have to dwindle....I see no reason why they should stop.
and to Brian...yes miss Nicks and Mr Buckingham helped make Fleetwood Mac famous, but, Fleetwood Mac also made Stevie and Lindsey Famous. Its called synergy...chemistry. stevie needs to dump her vocal coach. Let them play.
^^^ "Why does this piece ask should they let her back in?" Said completely with tongue in cheeck... Of course they should let her in... And I'm pretty sure it's going to happen... The stars are aligning. I've changed the title to something more appropriate.
ReplyDelete^^^ I Wasn't even thinking this was what nicklive wrote "should they let her back". I thought perhaps it was from the Gaurdian. Well we can stop arguing. But I wonder how many other old bands have passionate fans like us. I think my comment was taken down....maybe I said forget it and took it down. Oh well
Delete^^^ "wonderful" I have no doubt the wheels are turning. or this would not be going to press.
ReplyDeleteThanks "Nickslive"
I feel kinda bad for the new batch of Fleetwood Mac fans, because the fact is the band will probably only release one more album...if of course they are still living...the fact is they are getting up there in age and their performances on some level do confirm this...I wish all of them nothing but the best...and as for the performance of Stevie's ' Sister Of The Moon'...it doesn't even come close to what her performance & energy was back in the 80's...WHY because she is getting old!
ReplyDeleteI can say this because It isn't any fun looking back and saying in your mind...Remember when ???
She should be welcomed with open arms, they should record a final CD in 2014, and book a long run in Las Vegas in 2015. This way, they can save all their energy for performing and not worry about all the travel (and aches and pains that go with it).
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely fantastic news.
ReplyDeleteit deserves 100 comments No need to worry any she will be back
ReplyDeleteWow!! Some major thoughts and opinions here! Much of which I agree with. Although LB was part of the 5 who produced Rumours, Tango etc, I am not and never have been his biggest fan, with the exception of GYOW and a few others, he is a one trick pony, many songs sound the same and his voice is getting worse as he get's older, he sounds nothing like he ever did on the original recordings. I'd be very keen to hear more about the Christine situation as I think he should have no say in the matter, he always wants to hog the limelight but he should remember that Christine was there before him and was there after he left so what right does he have to question or comment on the return of such an iconic lady? If anything, he should be flattered and honoured to work with her again.
ReplyDeleteI'd also agree, although I love and adore Stevie, her voice isn't anywhere near what it used to be and certain songs shouldn't even be attempted anymore. I think Gypsy should be put on the shelf, it's embarrising when the backing singers take over the higher parts.
However, back to the main subject of the glorious Christine's possible return, well, let's remember some of their best known songs and who wrote them? Don't Stop, Little Lies, Everywhere, You Make Loving Fun, Say You Love Me, Over My Head, Hold Me etc. Most of these are instantly recognizable even to those who are not even fans and yet they're missing from the band's live set, with the exception of Don't Stop. Also, her harmonies cannot be replaced, not even by Stevie's very talented backing singers, Christine is a true professional musician and singer and she kept the other two grounded and in line way before FM had backing singers and that is the work of a real musician who knows their stuff.
I hate to sound so critical of my musical heroes but I think my point is that my heroes are not the real deal without Christine, and actually, I agree with others about loving the BTM line-up, those guys did some great renditions of some classic songs and we never had to suffer the ever lasting, wining I'm So Afraid. Sorry LB but you're not all that, and Ms McVie would be the best thing to happen to the band in the Autumn of their career.
"I miss them all. If they were to ask me I would probably be very delighted … but it hasn't happened so we'll have to wait and see."
ReplyDeleteFor Chris to make a public statement like that, I'm thinking there might have been internal resistance from a band member (think we know who).
For her to float a test balloon for fan reaction, I'm sure it was loud and positive. Putting outside fan pressure on a band member, corners (boxes) that member to answer questions from reporters about Chris rejoining FM.
Knocking on the FM door was loud and clear and Yes “Can Go Back”.

turn up your monitors!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteThis is the dynamic of the band (EMOTIONS), I believe this is a complete fabrication to create the 2014 album. Making Chris sitting on the first row is a plan to continue the emotions and dynamics of Fleetwood Mac. No band in history has put the string of years together with this love and hate between each other. Unlike their early years, it's all for the love of their act on stage played out in their music. Now that they are older its planed and it's choreographed.....just look at their fan base pissing and moaning about how Chris is being treated by Lindsey.
ReplyDeleteYou got to love it!!
McVie must come back to "officially" close the bands outstanding legacy. I would love to see one last tour filled with the greatest, and only the greatest hits! :)
ReplyDeleteBUT, Christine is the oldest of the bunch and I personally think her voice was shot at her appearance in London - just saying.
I was hoping this would happen. This band has another great album in them, at least. I missed Christine in SYW, maybe some folks out there feel otherwise, and its no slight to the rest of the band, especially Lindsey and Stevie, but I just didn't enjoy the album as much as I might have had Christine wrote and performed on it. Something was missing. All these years gone by and still all the ego and drama. Just shut up and play yer guitar for once.
ReplyDeletei don't think this will ever happen. the whole thing of chris' departure is quite strange. maybe she left america due to her separation from eddy but she should never have broken the chain. i don't think she would still fit into fleetwood mac though she was my fav member of the group. lindsey and stevie will never agree, especially lindsey. if chris rejoined their last final album would be a killer but this will never happen. and don't forget about the next tour, christine would not be delighted, i'm sure.
