Review: Stevie Nicks: In Your Dreams - Documentary

Stevie Nicks: In Your Dreams:
Two and a half stars out of five

It’s unpredictable, fiery and completely random. Creativity can reduce the bravest, most decorated left-brained soldier into a puddle of nervous mush. For singer-songwriter Stevie Nicks, this seems to be a natural state — a lacy palace of romantic thoughts and swirling melodies that complements her actual abode, a sprawling mansion with a mega-rotunda in suburban Los Angeles. The house and Nicks’s ephemeral creative muse are essentially the two stars of In Your Dreams, a new documentary from multi-hyphenate producer Dave Stewart. Part video diary of the production process, and part artist portrait, In Your Dreams chronicles the conception, gestation and eventual birth of Nicks’s latest studio offering, which shares the same title as the movie. It conjures a feeling somewhere between nutty cat-collector and esteemed oddball artist, and we hear Nicks tell us about her life and her creative work with an unmistakable hint of Norma Desmond lurking in the folds of her black cloaks. 1. Clearly the woman who wrote this review is not a true Stevie fan....Cause I have seen the documentary and this is a incredible look into the creative process of one of the best singer/songwriters of all time...I cant wait till my copy arrives.....with appearances from her Fleetwood Mac boys and a look inside her life its a must own for any true Stevie Nicks fan

  3. Yes, the doc rocks, but it's not an amazing documentary by conventional standards (not that we care). Now Soundcity on the other hand...

  4. Norma Desmond? Give me a break! If you love Stevie Nicks, this insightful and fun-filled documentary will rock you in a cradle of happiness. And, if you'e just learning the genius that is Dave Stewart, this flick showcases his humbleness and rich guitar talent. Getting this too-quick of a glimpse into Miss Nick's creative process onto the screen is greatly appreciated by many, including myself. Thank you Stevie and thank you Dave.

  5. This doc is just wonderful and would not change anything. Stevie knew exactly what we wanted to see. If you are a fan, you will love it. Just so glad I will be able to pop in a disc in a few days and watch more easily. The Norma Desmond comment is inaccurate. Stevie is not wandering around her empty house dreaming of what once was. She shows everyone having a wonderful time creating a masterpiece in the present time. She was anything but reliving the past. If you have not seen it, you will love it. And I agree with the previous poster - it really makes you happy just watching.
