Elise Testone Talks Idol & Stevie Nicks
Meeting Stevie Nicks was the highlight of her Idol journey so far. “I definitely felt like her and I were old friends and clicked right away,” she recalled of their meeting a few weeks ago, when they joined together for an impromptu duet and Nicks said, “If I needed a singer, I’d hire her in an instant.” “She was so passionate and sincere with her advice when she spoke to me,” said Testone. “That was the most incredible mentor for me we’ve had so far. And I hope she calls me to be her backup singer!”

Videos: Stevie Nicks on Idol
WOW What a Night!!
Stevie Nicks was absolutely wonderful tonight on American Idol. So personal... So caring... and I think the contestants that were taking advice from Stevie and Jimmy really felt that... I did!
Here are 2 mentoring segments from the show. It was a two hour show, Jimmy and Stevie were interspersed amongst the live performances hearing each song the contestant was going to sing... They would critique them, give them pointers, encouragement - and Stevie even added her own voice to a few of the segments helping the idol work out the song... It was great and really cool to see. The kids all seemed so blown away by what Stevie had to say... and were so appreciative. It was cool to see Stevie in action. We've all heard the stories on how she likes to mentor the younger generation of singers and artists but that's never been for public consumption... So it was nice to hear her with these young artists. Stevie could easily be the resident Mentor on Idol!
Here's a couple of examples. First up is Skylar and then Hollie who sang Carrie Underwood's Jesus Take The Wheel - which was really a touching moment for Stevie when in trying to get across the emotion that needs to be in the song to make it believable explained that she just lost her mother a couple of months ago and wants to hear Hollie's heart in the song! Stevie, then listening to Hollie sing, began to tear up.

The Top 9 on IDOL Talk Stevie Nicks: "She gave such thoughtful, helpful advice"
The "American Idol" Top 9 might be a very diverse group of singers with different outlooks on life, but they can all agree on one thing: Stevie Nicks is the best mentor they've ever had.
"She was amazing," gushes Jessica Sanchez.
DeAndre Brackensick agrees. "My favorite mentor ever," he tells Zap2it. "She came so prepared. She stayed up until like 4:00 in the morning the night before listening to all of our songs. She helped us be an artist not a product, which is what I really loved. She focused on what we wanted. I loved her."
Skylar Laine also appreciates the helpful advice Nicks gave. "Stevie was awesome. She did her homework. She came in and said 'I spent two hours last night listening to your songs and I still listened to them on the way here this morning.' I was like 'Dang.' No other mentor has said that to us. It was awesome because you felt so much respect for her and you just knew that she really cared about the mentoring. She wasn't just there beause she was asked to be there. She really wanted to help us."
For Elise Testone, the mentoring experience was especially wonderful because she actually got to sing with the Fleetwood Mac frontwoman.
"I said, 'I sing your music,' and Jimmy [Iovine] was like 'Well here Stevie, why don't you sing a song together?' We sang 'Dreams.' She sang the chorus and I harmonized above her. I just jumped right in -- it was like we had been playing together forever."
In fact, the familiarity was apparent as soon as Testone and Nicks met. "There are certain people that I meet that I instantly feel like I have been friends with them or we know each other," she says. "I felt that way with Steven Tyler, and I felt that way with her. There's just something that we have that we just clicked. We were just friends. I was so excited and I couldn't stop giggling."
But even more exciting than meeting such an industry legend was the fact that she gave such thoughtful, helpful advice -- something every single finalist mentioned they loved about Nicks.
"Stevie Nicks was the one person who actually changed our perspective towards the mentor," Heejun Han explains. "A couple of past weeks we had a mentor who wasn't prepared, who pretty much just wanted to have their own [moment in the spotlight], but Stevie Nicks was really well-prepared and I think she's the best mentor we've had so far."
And who, exactly could Han be referring to? We'll let this exchange between Colton Dixon and Phillip Phillips speak for itself:
"I was really excited that we walked in and we had a rock singer in there," Dixon says. "I was so tickled to death about that. I was like finally! Not that Diddy couldn't relate to my music, but..."
Phillips interjects: "He couldn't relate!"
Dixon agrees. "Yeah, I don't think he could."

'American Idol': Stevie Nicks to Mentor Top 9
Enlisted by old pal and in-house mentor Jimmy Iovine, the iconic Fleetwood Mac singer will guide the season 11 finalists as they perform songs by their idols.
It looks like Jimmy Iovine is hard at work enlisting artist friends to take part in this year's American Idol. The latest to join as guest mentor: singer, songwriter and Fleetwood Mac frontwoman Stevie Nicks, who will guide season 11's remaining nine finalists on next week's episode. The theme: songs from the contestants' Idols.
Only a couple Idols tweeted that they got to spend time with iconic vocalist, including 16-year-old Jessica Sanchez, who expressed her excitement over having met the one and only Stevie. Others, like DeAndre Brackensick were a bit more coy about who was guiding them. "ive [sic] got to say that our mentor this week is amazing," he wrote.
Of course, Iovine and Nicks go way back -- the Interscope Geffen A&M chairman is not only a decades-long friend, but he (along with Tom Petty) produced her breakout solo album, 1981's Bella Donna, along with subsequent releases The Wild Heart (1983) and Rock a Little (1985). It's also fairly well-documented that the two dated for a stretch in the 1980s. More recently, Iovine praised Nicks and her place in his life when he was honored by the Recording Academy's Producers & Engineers Wing before last month's Grammy Awards.
Tune in to Fox on Wednesday to see how the Top 9 fare.

#idol Recap of Haley Singing Rhiannon by Fleetwood Mac a Stevie Nicks Penned Song
[From Wednesday's American Idol Show]
Haley Reinhart sings “Rhiannon” by Fleetwood Mac on American Idol 2011.

Watching Haley audition, I'm more convinced than ever that she's improved as much as any top-three contestant I've ever seen. The voice was there from the beginning, but she has learned how to use it better and how to present herself.

Fleetwood Mac came back big on Glee a couple of weeks ago and last night Stevie Nicks was on Dancing With The Stars. Tonight, American Idol finalist Haley Reinhart channeled her inner Stevie Nicks as she performed “Rhiannon” live. Jimmy Iovine chose the song for Haley and despite it being a little windy on the Idol stage; Haley Reinhart did the song justice. Can she win American Idol Season 10?
By Brian Mansfield,
Watching Haley audition, I'm more convinced than ever that she's improved as much as any top-three contestant I've ever seen. The voice was there from the beginning, but she has learned how to use it better and how to present herself.
Haley says remembering the words will be a challenge as she sings Fleetwood Mac's Rhiannon. "From the minute I met you, I felt you should sing a Stevie Nicks song," he says. Haley's a Stevie Nicks fan, via her mother.
Haley gets smoke and dramatic black-and-white lighting for Rhiannon, which begins with only piano accompaniment before kicking into a more Mac-like arrangement for the second verse, at which point a wind machine kicks up underneath her, blowing her hair and her dress every which way. More than Scotty or Lauren, Haley knows how present a song, and the show's producers are giving her every opportunity to show off that skill. Good performance, great TV.
For me, Round Two goes to Haley, too, though Scotty came close.
And, at this point, even the awkward banter with the judges is playing to her favor.
"You're in a zone right now," Randy says. "You're just having a good time right now. ... I would grow my hair out if I could have the whole wind thing."
"You remind me of why I fell in love with Stevie Nicks to begin with," says Steven.
"It was a really beautiful moment," Jennifer says, "and you looked really beautiful on camera. ... It was a nice contrast to what you did earlier."
From the judges, Round Two is a mixed result: Steven goes for Lauren Alaina, while Jennifer and Randy (and Jimmy) go for Scotty.
"It's going to be an interesting finish," says Ryan, pointing out that Neil Sedaka is sitting next to Jimmy.
