REMINDER: Jan 1st 5-7pm @BBCRadio2 "Beyond The Rumours" Johnnie Walker Meets Fleetwood Mac

Beyond The Rumours - Johnnie Walker Meets Fleetwood Mac and unearths the truth Beyond and Behind the rumours.

Late last year, a packed audience at London's O2 Arena went wild as Fleetwood Mac welcomed on stage Christine McVie, completing the line-up of the band that produced one of the biggest selling albums of all times "Rumours".

The success of Fleetwood Mac, is without precedent considering the varying line ups. However, the constants include their remarkable drummer and "big daddy" of the group Mick Fleetwood and the "quiet man", bassist John McVie. Which is fortunate as that's how the band's name came about, combining their two surnames way back in 1967.

Across two hours Johnnie Walker speaks to Mick Fleetwood, Lindsey Buckingham, Stevie Nicks and features a rare interview with, pianist and singer-songwriter Christine McVie. We learn how they all had their part to play in the jigsaw puzzle of Fleetwood Mac's enduring success. Despite the sometimes hedonistic lifestyle, divorces and ego clashes, they couldn't have produced decades of hit records without love and friendship.

Johnnie Walker takes us "Beyond The Rumours".

Tune In: January 1, 2014 on BBC Radio 2 from 5pm-7pm UK time. Listen on-line

An interview with Stevie Nicks conducted September 16, 2013 in London will replay on the show. Listen in for that at 10:00am on BBC Radio 4, or listen to the interview now on-line here.

Stevie Nicks has been called “the ultimate rock goddess,” and now at 65 is certainly not about to retire from the role. Reunited with Fleetwood Mac, she’s about to play a string of UK dates on a massive world tour, the band’s multi-million selling album Rumours has been re-released 35 years after it reached number one, they have an EP of new material, and tonight she premiers her new film, In Your Dreams – a documentary about her solo album of the same name. But she’s famed too, of course, not just for her music, but also for the ‘soap opera’ of drugs,  relationships and break-ups that was a backdrop to the music of Fleetwood Mac – and particularly for her difficult romantic relationship and breakup with band member Lindsay Buckingham, which she sang about in her hit song Dreams. Stevie Nicks joins Jane Garvey to discuss being a woman in a very male dominated music world, her tumultuous personal relationships, dealing with addiction, her new documentary, being reunited with bandmate Christine McVie, and her relationship today with ex-partner and guitarist Lindsay Buckingham.

On 4 February 1977, an album was released that would go on to be one of the best selling albums of all time. Paul Sexton tells the remarkable story behind the making of Fleetwood Mac's Grammy Award-winning album.

Rumours by Fleetwood Mac was made under the most bizarre circumstances. The two couples at the heart of the band, John and Christine McVie and Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham, were in the process of splitting up. No songs were written before going into the studio. And everyone was zonked on cocaine. So they wrote about it all as it happened, and one of the most successful albums of all time was the result.

The Story Of Rumours is told through new interviews with Mick Fleetwood and Lindsey Buckingham, as well as some amazing studio tales from producer Ken Caillat. The other band members feature through archive interviews.

It's interspersed with classic hits from the album, including The Chain, Dreams, Don't Stop and Go Your Own Way.

INTERVIEW WITH MICK AND LINDSEY OF FLEETWOOD MAC BBC RADIO 2

Mick Fleetwood and Lindsey Buckingham
both interviewed earlier today on The Radcliffe & Maconie show "The Chain"

The show doesn't appear to be up on their site just yet to re-listen to.

Lindsey, when asked if he missed Christine on the road, said that it's got some good and some bad and that obviously as someone who is soulful, very kind and enthusiastic, they miss that - and that as an element of the 5 that had a great deal to do with their success and with their chemistry they do... but change is what Fleetwood Mac has been known for and that as much as there is a missed element there sometimes, more emotionally then musically, it has opened up other possibilities certainly for him on stage when you divide the material evenly between him and Stevie it gives him more of an opportunity to express himself...

Both Lindsey and Mick are both keen to work on putting out new material... and that hopefully they will and maybe they will get into doing that next year... Mick describes having to tread a little carefully when it comes to Stevie as she is the lady of our band and works very hard as they all do. At a well placed moment EARLY in the new year the subject will be brought up. Because they are on the road it's tiring, fun, but tiring, and talking new album while slogging around isn't such a good time to bring it up.

INTERVIEW TONIGHT... MICK & LINDSEY (FLEEWOOD MAC) ON "THE CHAIN" BBC RADIO 2

Monday November 9th
Fleetwood Mac's Mick and Lindsey
will be Guests

In the UK the show begins at 8pm tonight. In North America - depending on where you are the show can begin in the early or late afternoon.... All you BBCer's in the UK - keep your eyes peeled for late this Sunday night on BBC One a Fleetwood Mac Documentary called "Don't Stop" will be on... Not sure if this is a new doc on the band, or a rebranding of something old... In any case, here are the details:

Fleetwood Mac - Don't Stop
NEXT ON:
Sunday, 22:20 on BBC One (except Northern Ireland)

Fleetwood Mac, one of the biggest-selling bands of all time, are back on the road again. Their story, told in their own words, is an epic tale of love and confrontation, of success and loss.

Few bands have undergone such radical musical and personal change. The band evolved from the 60s British blues boom to perfect a US West Coast sound that saw them sell 40 million copies of the album Rumours.

However, behind the scenes relationships were turbulent. The band went through multiple line-ups with six different lead guitarists. While working on Rumours, the two couples at the heart of the band separated, yet this heartache inspired the perfect pop record.
