Co-headliner Stevie Nicks opened the show with Led Zeppelin's "Rock and Roll" as pictures of rock icons of yore -- that she probably partied "serious" with -- flashed on a giant screen behind her and her band. It was cool to see guitarist Waddy Wachtel in action next to Nicks after years of reading his name in biographies and liner notes, too.
Nicks' set was heavy on the solo big guns ("Stand Back", "Edge oOf Seventeen"), her newish In your Dreams material, and the mammoths from her Fleetwood Mac catalog. She also has a cool little tent onstage that she changes into different goth gear every few songs too.
Houston's August music calendar is getting another dose of Mac with Lindsey Buckingham playing Fitzgerald's in a few days, and the band itself should be here in 2013.
The witchy woman told a great story about visiting injured troops at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, before introducing "Soldier's Angel." During the middle of her story -- a moving one -- someone on the floor of the arena bellowed "Boring!" which was pretty classy.
Thursday night was Nicks and Stewart's last show on this tour together, but she promised more touring in the future. The duo makes for strange concert bedfellows, and they didn't end up taking the stage together as they had on some previous dates.
She closed her portion of the show with a perfect version of "Landslide" with Wachtel. Give us them Mac dates already. Also, her "Landslide" means more at 64 years of age than it ever did when it was written, and she said as much onstage too.

Tulsa Review: Stevie Nicks "Her distinctive voice was strong and confident, buoyant and bright"

"To put the stars together may feel like an “Odd Couple” pairing — the rebellious blues-rocker blond power woman with the master of the pop-disco-hybrid American songbook.
Boy, it worked. Gloriously.
The night launched with a rollicking welcome and Nicks’ hammering version of the Led Zeppelin classic “Rock and Roll,” backed by a seven-piece band. A stream of photos flashed behind them all, spanning half a century of the genre.
In her trademark way, Nicks adorned the sultry warble of each song with her retro-’70s-era glittered shawls and dark lace, tambourines and baubles, and punctuated the high points with high kicks in black suede platform boots."

PHOTOS + REVIEW: Stevie Nicks "her voice is still strong, confident, and amazingly rich in the deeper tones"

STEVIE NICKS
LIVE IN ORLANDOAugust 3, 2012
The sultry Stevie Nicks and randy Rod Stewart seem like an odd pairing for a concert event, but last night’s Orlando stop on their Heart & Soul tour provided an entertaining evening of musical nostalgia by two pros who still have it.
Opening the show with a 75-minute set featuring solo tunes old and new, as well as those songs made famous through her days with Fleetwood Mac, Nicks has never sounded better. Sure, she’s lost some of the upper register (which she graciously concedes to her back-up duo) but her voice is still strong, confident, and amazingly rich in the deeper tones.
Unlike Stewart, whose most recent output has been a recurring trip to the Great American Songbook, Nicks had her 2011 critically acclaimed release In Your Dreams to draw from. And surprisingly, those songs (of which three were performed) blended perfectly with her classic hits. Most notable was “Soldier’s Angel,” a mournful ballad inspired by her own interactions with wounded American soldiers.
But it was the classics that most of the audience was there to hear, and she didn’t disappoint. An Irish-tinged and string laden intro to Fleetwood Mac’s “Gold Dust Woman” gave that song new life, and the ghostly “Rhiannon” was presented in two different versions garnering the ultimate theatricality.
The solo years of the 80s kicked into gear with a fun arrangement of “Stand Back” while she announced that she was wearing the original “Stand Back” cape from the 1983 video. It was her first chance to treat the audience to her signature “Stevie spin” as well.
Seemingly providing the “heart” of the Heart & Soul tour, Nicks closed her set with the luscious “Landslide,” accompanied by a slide show of her life for a song she equated with family and loving those close to you.

Review: Stevie Nicks Orlando 8/3 Nicks offered a dramatic assortment of mystical gestures
STEVIE NICKS | ROD STEWART - LIVE IN ORLANDO
Review by: Jim Abbott
“Two legends, one stage,” proclaimed ads for the “Heart & Soul” tour of Rod Stewart and Stevie Nicks.
Part of that might be a stretch, but there was one stage on Friday at a nearly packed Amway Center.
In terms of musical chemistry, these two veteran rock stars seem like an odd couple. Not exactly leather and lace, you know?
Still, Stewart and Nicks (who didn’t sing together on this night) have enough classic favorites for an appealing nostalgia trip. That’s especially true for Stewart, who also possesses a knack for channeling material of heavyweight songwriters from Bob Dylan to Van Morrison.
Nicks, on the other hand, hasn’t been as busy, releasing only two studio projects since 2001. In a well-constructed 75-minute opening set, songs from her 2011 “In Your Dreams” album were strong enough to hope that she doesn’t wait so long for the next release. Even without the rest of her old band, the classics “Dreams,” “Gold Dust Woman” and “Landslide” remain powerful.
Dressed in flowing black, with matching fingerless gloves, Nicks offered a dramatic assortment of mystical gestures and the occasional spinning dance move, especially in a theatrical “Rhiannon.” Between songs, she was chatty enough to qualify as the heart of the “Heart & Soul” tour.

STEVIE NICKS | ROD STEWART - LIVE IN PITTSBURGH
My most anticipated internship assignment of the summer happened on Saturday night when I went to CONSOL Energy Center to photograph Rod Stewart and Stevie Nicks in concert. I was especially excited to see Stevie because I consider her one of my musical heroes, and I had always wanted to watch her perform live. Yet, I was also curious to see what Rod Stewart’s set was like, since I like a good number of his songs and had heard he was really funny and entertaining onstage.

Update: Tour Stats... Stevie Nicks Solo + 3 Heart & Soul Dates
STEVIE NICKS 2012 TOUR STATS
Solo and Heart and Soul Tour
Below are the shows reported on so far.
Regarding the Uncasville show... It is odd that the attendance figure at 3,384 is being reported with a capacity of 3,786. The venue IS far larger then that... As an example, in April, 2008 when Stevie played the same venue, these were the numbers that were reported: Attendance: 7,466 | Capacity: 7,681
So I think this number this year that was reported can't be correct. And like someone said below, good seats and tickets were hard to come by for this show.

Review: Stevie Nicks, 64, wasn't as physical as Rod Stewart, but her voice was much finer - Milwaukee
Waddy Wachtel View The Photo Gallery |
By Piet Levy of the Journal Sentinel
Seeing Rod Stewart and Stevie Nicks singing together has arguably been one of the stronger selling points of the accomplished veterans' joint 2-year-old Heart and Soul Tour, which made a stop at the BMO Harris Bradley Center on Monday.
But as has been the case on recent dates, the duets didn't happen.
Perhaps their hearts and souls weren't in it. And perhaps it was for the best, given the bad reviews their joint performances have received.
So instead of Stewart warbling his way through "Leather and Lace," Nicks brought out vocal coach Steve Real. Like most of the evening, the performance was affectionate and comforting.

Rod Stewart And Stevie Nicks Turn Back The Clock In Nashville
By Evan Schlansky
Stevie Nicks and Rod Stewart did not duet during their double bill last night, as they’ve done frequently on their joint Heart and Soul tour. Nick’s voice was bothering her, she said, which was probably the reason why (unless they’re sick of each other by now).
Still, they made the perfect pair; Nicks’ classic rock radio-ready sound and hippie ethos combined perfectly with Stewart’s cavalcade of hits, for a night of sheer sing-along goodness and rock and roll bliss.

Stevie at the end is pretty emotional. She was emotional going into the song... Her throat is still giving her some issues and she's likely relieved she made it through the show + she received a really warm response from Nashville... Stevie mentions Bob Welch's passing at the end of her Thank You's.

OK, we get it. Rod Stewart and Stevie Nicks are both classic rockers. But their differences are more striking than their similarities, something that was certainly true last night at Quicken Loans Arena, the first stop of the summer installment of their “Heart and Soul” co-headlining tour. Even when they performed together during the middle of Stewart’s set, each appeared a bit out of sorts. Nicks wore sunglasses as she and Stewart sang his “Young Turks,” and Stewart, who didn’t seem to know the words, sang only a few verses with Nicks on her “Leather and Lace.” Still, the two seemed to really appreciate each other (Stewart referred to Nicks as his “dear friend”) despite their differences and each delivered a strong performance.
Nicks opened the show with a 90-minute set that benefited from the fact that she had such a strong backing band. Led by guitarist Waddy Wachtel, the ensemble confidently blazed through Fleetwood Mac tunes such as “Dreams,” “Gold Dust Woman” and “Rhiannon.” Nicks’ raspy voice has held up well and she appeared genuinely engaged while singing “Stand Back” and “Edge of Seventeen,” hits from her solo career. A beautiful acoustic version of the Fleetwood Mac tune “Landslide” brought the set to a close. While they’ve become one of her defining traits, the wardrobe changes detracted from the overall performance. Between each song, Nicks would duck into a white tent to change shawls and dresses, but each outfit had a similar Goth-inspired look that made the singer look as if she were stuck in the ’70s.

Stevie Nicks Doesn’t Just Rely On Past Laurels
Seneca Niagara Events Center, Niagara Falls, NY - July 7, 2012
Rock Show Critique
Review/Photos By: Joseph Suto
13 Photos included
July 2, 1983, which takes us all the way back to her Wild Heart Tour, was the last time Stevie Nicks graced a Buffalo area stage as a solo artist. Fans of Ms. Nicks have been clamoring for her to play in the area and have waited a very long time. Well, Saturday evening at The Seneca Niagara Events Center, fans old and new both received their fill as Nicks and her band sifted through her catalog. Nicks made it a point to say how she was glad the fans were enjoying her more recent material. She stated this is not a greatest hits tour as she backed that up by playing no less than six cuts from last years In Your Dreams release, also her latest.
Nicks decided to try something a little different by starting off with the Zeppelin classic “Rock And Roll”. It wasn’t that the performance was bad, but perhaps one of her own songs such as “Stand Back”, which was played later in the set, would have gone over better in the opening slot. The chart topping “Dreams” was the first of four Fleetwood Mac songs on the evening. Stevie stated how “New Moon” from the Twilight series of films inspired her to finish writing Moonlight (A Vampire’s Dream) a song from In Your Dreams that dates back almost some thirty years.
Just released...
Albatross | Lee Ranaldo Band featuring J Mascis another one of the Fleetwood Mac cover tunes featured on the upcoming August 14th release of "Just Tell Me That You Want Me". It's an instrumental track and I think sounds fairly close to the original (once you get past the first minute).
