On Sunday night's "Oprah's Master Class," Fleetwood Mac's legendary lead singer, Stevie Nicks, will open up about her compelling life, and no topic is off-limits, including her drug use at the height of her success.

In this sneak peek, Nicks says, "I used to carry a gram of cocaine in my boot at all times." Reflecting back at herself during that period, she confronts the memory, asking, "Could you have just laid off the brandy and the coke and the pot for two days?" -- admitting that she didn't look beautiful; she looked high.

But drug use didn't hinder her success, and neither did her failing personal relationship with her musical partner Lindsey Buckingham. As Fleetwood Mac wrapped its No. 1 album "Rumours," she broke up with Buckingham, insisting that their focus should be on the success of the band: "Our breaking up is not going to break up this band. And I'm not going to quit and neither are you," Nicks told him. "The band was way more important than each separate person's problems. And we knew that."

Nicks says that if she and Buckingham hadn't joined Fleetwood Mac, their lives would have been dramatically different, and they probably would have gotten married and had a child.

But fate took them in a different direction: They did join the iconic band, which had existed for nearly 10 years before Nicks and Buckingham were brought in. "And then, bang, Mick [Fleetwood] called. And life changed. Overnight," Nicks says. After buying Fleetwood Mac's existing records and listening to them twice, Nicks says that she told Buckingham, "I think that we can add to this band. I think that, you know, I think they have a real kind of witchy side that would appeal to us."

Buckingham was more skeptical, instead wanting to finish the album the duo had started and even go back to school, but Nicks would have no part of that. She wanted to join Fleetwood Mac, and the rest is history.

In the interview, Nicks also addresses her unflinching decision-making nature -- and it all began with her endlessly supportive mother: "My mom would always say to me, 'You'd better be the president of your company, or the lead singer of your band, or the boss. Because you don't like to be told what to do.' And she was totally right." And while her mother encouraged her to do whatever she wanted, she was also strict. As Nicks says, "She was hard on me in a lot of ways because she wanted me to be independent. ... And she wanted me to be fearless."

STEVIE NICKS on Oprah's Master Class... Would be brilliant!

STEVIE ON OPRAH'S MASTER CLASS?
Sheri Salata, Executive Producer at Oprah Winfrey's Network OWN, tweeted earlier today that she's
"hoping to shoot the brilliant and legendary Ms. Nicks on Master Class soon."

Does this mean it's something they've been working on, that it's booked, or is it just a 'hope' of Ms. Salata's?

In any case... I love the idea of Stevie appearing on the show... I've caught a few of the episodes of the show myself and have to say that these shows are extremely interesting, thought-provoking presentations of each guest featured.  Each episode of Oprah's Master Class focuses on one person's journey or story thus far, what they've learned in life and about themselves and what others can learn from their experiences.  Each person is hand-picked by Oprah for their unique impact on the world.

Stevie certainly has had a unique impact on the world over the last 35 or so years and I think she's the perfect candidate to be featured.  Don't you?  Sound off in the comments.

Stay tuned!!  Follow Sheri Salata on Twitter @SheriSalata

Stars talk about Oprah Winfrey [Stevie Nicks]

"I think that Oprah's legacy is that she has made a difference and that's what we as women want to do. We want to make a difference in this world and she's made a difference in a lot of ways. She's made a difference in really fun things and she's made a difference in really serious things and she's told us stories that ... I'd never heard -- the word abuse. ... I wouldn't even know what that was. She's made a difference so for me that's why I respect her. ... She will be remembered long after she's gone." -- Stevie Nicks,

who made her first appearance on "The Oprah Winfrey Show" in April 2011.

The Oprah Effect - Stevie Nicks "In Your Dreams" + Fleetwood Mac Album Sales

The awareness Oprah brings to an artists album is immeasurable. The only real way to measure the impact after an appearance on the show is to look directly at the album charts (if an album is released) or look at it's ranking on the best sellers list on Amazon for example where albums available for pre-sale and current releases are ranked.

Earlier today Stevie's In Your Dreams was ranked somewhere just north of # 50 on the top 100 in music sales. Currently it's sitting at # 16 on the top 100 which is a huge leap! When you break it all down into categories it looks like the following:

# 2 in Music > Classic Rock > Album-Oriented Rock (AOR)
# 10 in Music > Rock
# 15 in Music > Pop

itunes also experienced an uptick in downloads for both Stevie Nicks and Fleetwood Mac in North America... These are fairly current numbers although itunes is a moving target so it's hard to say at what time of day these numbers are from.  In any case, there's no denying the Oprah effect...

USA
itunes Top 100 Rock Album Charts:
- Fleetwood Mac - Rumours # 15
- Stevie Nicks - Crystal Visions # 93
itunes Top 100 Pop Album Charts:
- Fleetwood Mac - Greatest Hits # 9
itunes Top 100 Overall Albums Chart
- Fleetwood Mac - Greatest Hits # 47
- Fleetwood Mac - Rumours # 84
itunes Top 100 Pop Songs Chart
- Fleetwood Mac - Landslide # 68

CANADA

- Fleetwood Mac - Rumours # 79

It’s an “Oprah-palooza!” Some Details From The Musical Icons Appearing on Oprah

WEDNESDAY - 4/13/11 All New! Stevie Nicks, Joan Jett, Salt-N-Pepa, Pat Benatar: Rock Goddesses Of The 70s & 80s (PG)

It’s an “Oprah-palooza!” Today’s once in a lifetime television event features some of the greatest rock goddesses, hip hop legends and disco divas ever, including Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Stevie Nicks, “Godmother of Punk” Joan Jett, hip hop legends Salt-N-Pepa, and rock icon Pat Benatar! These trailblazing music legends are here to rock our world as they sing some of their biggest hits with some of the music superstars they’ve inspired along the way. Plus, don’t miss the grand finale performance you’ll be talking about for days to come! Today’s “Oprah!”

Not mentioned in the above show description, but also appearing are Sister Sledge, who along with all the other ladies reportedly closed the show with "We Are Family".  The next younger generation of music superstars that have been inspired by the featured guests and who also appear on the show are: Sheryl Crow, Avril Lavigne and Miley Cyrus.  Miley and Joan Jett were spotted out to dinner the night before in Chicago at former Oprah Chef's restaurant Table 52, they possibly could be collaborating or performing together...

For Stevie's part: According to various sources, Stevie sang two songs one with Sheryl Crow plus her new single "Secret Love"... Stevie was also interviewed by Oprah, and apparently the only one interviewed by Oprah during the taping...  Reports have Stevie closing the show or the taping with "Secret Love" but with "We Are Family" reportedly being sung by all the ladies, and by the description above, the "grand finale" Stevie's Secret Love performance will likely be sliced in during her segment.

So it looks like it's going to be a pretty exciting show next Wednesday...Hopefully, nothing is cut for time.

Can I get a show of hands on who's taking the day off work or rescheduling their day so not to miss the show?

WOW!... Next week is starting to look really full:
  • April 11th (Monday) we are expecting some sort of announcement to come via Stevie's Facebook Page or her Twitter account regarding the special pre-sale ticket opportunity for a show she's putting on at Websters Hall in NYC May 4th the day after her reported Today Show appearance on May 3rd.
  • April 12th (Tuesday) Dave Stewart let all his fans know on Twitter to expect something special from him and Stevie to appear on itunes.
  • April 13th (Wednesday) Stevie on THE OPRAH SHOW!
[update]

Great News for UK Fans
Matt Denison who was one lucky fan flown in from Ottawa, Canada had a back stage meet and greet with Stevie {his story is here} just reported that Stevie confirmed she IS playing the Glastonbury Festival in the UK in June...No specific date given.  She also said she's looking to play places she hasn't been to in awhile... The bad news about Glasonbury is the festival usually sells out months and months in advance, so those that don't have tickets now may be left out.  Hopefully she will add more to her UK Itinerary!    Glastonbury info here

Also... The Secret Love performance was filmed but will be an Oprah.com exclusive... What does that mean?  Do you need to be a forum member?

Will Stevie Nicks be Performing on Oprah?

Al Ortiz, Stevie's Bass player posted to his Facebook page today the following:
"Madison Square Garden tonight. Then a long bus ride to Chicago. We are doing Oprah. It will air on the 13th."
From this, I take it Stevie's going to perform on Oprah :)
