Stevie Nicks' new whirl + Fleetwood Mac Reuniting Update...

"Lindsey has made a really beautiful record ['Seeds We Sow,' due Sept. 6] and he's going to go work that record. By the time we're both done working these records and you put a little time between it, Fleetwood Mac will probably start dancing around the fire at the end of next year."

This summer, Stevie Nicks was invited to sing on TV's "America's Got Talent" and "The Voice." This month, she joined Jeff Bridges and John Fogerty at a benefit for wounded soldiers in Sturgis, S.D. In May, her Fleetwood Mac songs were featured on a "Glee" episode.

Why is the witchy woman so suddenly in demand?

It probably has a lot to do with "In Your Dreams," her first solo album in 10 years and her best since 1981's "Bella Donna."

"I have to tip my top hat to Dave Stewart" of Eurythmics, she said, who produced the album. "I think the seven songs that he and I wrote together mixed in with the five songs that I wrote by myself made for a much more interesting and diversified record," said Nicks, who performs Wednesday at Mystic Lake Casino amphitheater.

As a musician, Nicks, 63, knows she's limited. She didn't expect to be writing with Stewart but she sent him 40 pages of poetry. He came to her house and said, "Let's do this one."

Recalled Nicks: "In my head, I'm like, 'You don't think we're really going to sit in this room and write a song together, 'cause I don't do that.' But he was so kind and so sweet and no ego, and we just started playing, and in 15 minutes we finished 'You May Be the One.'

"Suddenly, I had an epiphany. Wow! That worked. And this is a really great song with no grief. I don't feel punished or like something was taken away from me. I don't miss spending two months sitting at my piano in tears."

One of her own songs on "In Your Dreams" actually dates back to Fleetwood Mac's "Rumours" days in the mid-1970s. She knew she had "Secret Love" on a cassette somewhere but couldn't find it. Then her assistant discovered it on YouTube. It turns out that Nicks had actually recorded it for "Bella Donna" but never released it. Keyboardist Benmont Tench, the musical director for that album, was the only person to remember it.

"Ben told me that the other day," Nicks said. "Now my whole story about having no idea [what happened to the song] has gone to hell in a handbag. I remember we recorded a lot of songs for 'Bella Donna'; I just did not remember that."

If people actually still buy CDs, Stevie Nicks will probably sell a few copies of her latest one after her show at PNC Pavilion Saturday night.

Nearly half of the songs in Nicks’ set came from “In Your Dreams,” her first studio album in 10 years. And there wasn’t the severe drop-off in quality one might expect when going from a new song to a time-tested Fleetwood Mac classic.

The first hour of the 105-minute performance was an “In Your Dreams” showcase, as she did five tunes from the record. Most had a Fleetwood Mac feel, probably because of the woman singing lead. But her outstanding seven-piece band, led by ace side man and session guitarist Waddy Wachtel, played with a command and an ease that contributed to the Mac vibe. The ensemble was rounded out by backup vocalists Sharon Celani and Lori Nicks, Stevie’s sister-in-law.

Stevie got all of her twirling for the night out of the way during the evening’s first song, her 1983 solo hit “Stand Back” (unofficial count: eight consecutive 360-degree spins). Dressed in an all black outfit topped with a red shawl, she could have been mistaken for a cast member of “Game of Thrones,” though she doesn’t owe her look to that show. Medieval has been her signature since the mid-‘70s.

Stevie Nicks... Footage of "For What Its Worth" Video - Toledo...

Looking good!  Can't wait to see it...
Thanks to: @jtwill84 for a glimpse of what looks like another great video...

Review: Stevie Nicks Live in Toledo...

If fans came to the Huntington Center Friday night hoping to hear Stevie Nicks sing nothing but a long list of hit songs, of which she certainly has many, they arrived late … three years late.

Nicks did that set when she visited Toledo in 2008 and on many tours before. But Friday night was a refreshing change for those who have seen her often in an almost four-decade long career as a solo artist or as frontwoman of Fleetwood Mac.

That’s not to say she didn’t offer any favorites – there were lots – but Nicks proved with the offering of six new tunes from “In Your Dreams,” her first album in10 years, she is still a powerful songwriter.

The 14-song, nearly two-hour show seemed to satisfy the Nicks devotees who filled a bit more than half of the arena but more than made up for it with their enthusiasm for the legendary singer.

After kicking it off with her hit “Stand Back,” Nicks joked with the crowd, saying “It’s so good to be inside,” referring to her previous trip here which was rain-delayed for two hours at the Toledo Zoo Amphitheater.

Before continuing she removed her red shawl, one of many in the evening that help make up her pure-Stevie trademark look, telling us, “You have to be careful, it’s very delicate -- I’ve been using it since 1976.”

It’s a good bet most of those in attendance have been following her as long, or almost, with the sprinkling of some younger fans, no doubt having been phased into the world of Fleetwood Mac and Stevie by their parents.

That timeframe also describes her band, as she spoke of backup singers Sharon Celani and Lori Nicks (married to Stevie's brother, Chris).

“They have been with me since 1979,” Nicks said.

A Conversation with Stevie Nicks: We caught up with Stevie via email this week to discuss her upcoming tour stop in Cincinnati

by Amy Harris

There are not too many musicians that could be said to have defined all music. Stevie Nicks has truly defined women in Rock-N-Roll. She is the gold standard and who all female leads will always be compared to. She was the defining voice behind Fleetwood Mac since the mid 1970s sporting dozens of hits. She has also been able to separate and create a wonderful solo career as well releasing her 7th album, In Your Dreams, in May with great success debuting in the top 10 of the Billboard charts. She is currently on the road to promote her latest record with her solo act and will come through Cincinnati on Saturday night at the PNC Pavilion at Riverbend. It will be a fun night of music showcase with her new sounds and a nostalgic flair.

We caught up with Stevie via email this week to discuss her upcoming tour stop in Cincinnati and her inspirations for the new record and what a typical day looks like for an iconic rock star.

Amy: What can fans expect from the show in Cincinnati this weekend?

Stevie: Old songs, new songs, bits and pieces of the new videos for both Secret Love and For What It’s Worth, which is my new single, with Dave Stewart and Mike Campbell. Stories about all the songs, new clothes and 2 hours of fun!

Stevie Nicks Dances Back...

Stevie Nicks had vowed to never again play outdoor venues like PNC Pavilion in the summer humidity. But then Nicks, famous for her onstage 360-degree twirls, pulled a 180.

"I called my manager two months ago and said, 'I've changed my mind.' I believe in this record so much," says Nicks, calling from tour rehearsals in Denver. "If it means I have to go stand out there in 95-degree weather, I'm going to do it, because this record means so much to me."

The Fleetwood Mac vocalist and solo star released the CD "In Your Dreams" in May. Produced by Dave Stewart, the album has received positive reviews. Nicks became determined to play more cities. And her fondness for a certain unnamed local hotel convinced her to come to Cincinnati in particular.

"First of all, I like the hotel. You know what? I'm on a mission to bring this record to the people," she says.

That mission included placing six songs from the new CD into the nearly two-hour performance. Nicks is aware of the danger of a classic-rock performer trying to force feed new material to a live audience.

"When we did 'Rumours,' which was the second Fleetwood Mac record (from the time Nicks joined the band), we thought, 'Well, great, we won't even play anything from the first Fleetwood Mac record or any of the other Fleetwood Mac records. We'll just do the 'Rumours' record.' And we just about nearly got booed off the stage. So we went straight into rehearsal the next day and revamped the set. And that was a lesson that I, all of us, have always remembered," she says.

Stevie Nicks "In Your Dreams" strikingly versatile, covering love and politics, dreams and poems, rock and pop

Stevie Nicks' first album in 10 years is easily her strongest solo effort since "Bella Donna" in 1981. "In Your Dreams" is strikingly versatile, covering love and politics, dreams and poems, rock and pop. Props to producer Dave Stewart of Eurythmics and to Nicks for inviting ex-beau Lindsey Buckingham to play on "Soldier's Angel" and for recording "Secret Love," which she wrote during Fleetwood Mac's "Rumour" period. Nicks is so proud of this new album that she's willing to play outdoors in her witchy wardrobe in the heat of the summer. Read an interview with the Fleetwood Mac siren in Monday's Variety section. (7:30 p.m. Wed., Mystic Lake Casino amphitheater, $33-$46.)
