Front Page of The Orange Leader

Today's front page of The Orange Leader features a review of Lindsey's show at The Lutcher Theater on Sunday, August 19, 2012.  Great shot of him too!

Lindsey Buckingham opens Lutcher Theater season in rocking fashion
The Orange Leader (Orange, TX)
By Tommy Mann Jr.

ORANGE — Lindsey Buckingham may have performed a solo showcase Sunday night, but the Lutcher Theater rocked from start to finish.

Lindsey Buckingham, the well-known singer, songwriter, musician and member of Fleetwood Mac, opened the 2012-2013 season with a concert inside the Lutcher Theater for the Performing Arts in Orange, Texas.

The talented performer, listed as the 100th best guitarist in the world by Rolling Stone magazine, dazzled fans in attendance with his powerful, and still impressive, vocals and his even more impressive fingerpicking guitar skills. The large crowd featured fans from as far away as San Antonio, Texas, and Lafayette, La., as well as many local and area patrons, such as Mark and Caroline Crawford of Lake Charles, La., who made their first-ever trip to the Lutcher Theater.

HOT OFF THE HOUSTON PRESS:
Lindsey Buckingham at Fitzgerald's - August 20, 2012
By Christina Lynn
Houston Press

It was a packed house Monday night at Fitzgerald's when Fleetwood Mac's Lindsey Buckingham took the stage, albeit this time with a very "small machine:" Himself. No bells or whistles, just him and mostly his guitar.

Buckingham began the evening with the beautiful "Cast Away Dreams" before launching into the newer Fleetwood Mac classic "Bleed To Love Her." Though the song was rather harmonious as is, I couldn't help but hum along in my head Stevie Nicks and Christine McVie's parts as heard on the original recording.

2 More Sell-Outs for Lindsey Buckingham - Stevie Nicks Toein the Line

Lindsey's 2 shows at City Winery Chicago August 26th and 27th including Meet and Greets are now completely sold out!

These two new sell outs gives Lindsey a total of 7 shows since July 26th that have sold out well in advance of showtime, where if you went to the website selling the tickets, it either indicated sold out, or there were no seats left to choose from.  It's also entirely possible that other venues have sold out right at the last minute.  Not sure what this is attributed to, whether hitting these towns during the summer makes all the difference, or if it's because he's hitting markets he's largely never been to lately, the size of the venue or if it's just straight up good promotion on the part of the venue and his team - or all of the above.  Certainly the great ticket prices help!  In any case... GOOD FOR HIM! His tour runs through September 8th in Rama, Ontario Canada, which should end up being the largest audience yet on this tour... Nice send off!

There are still Tickets available for multiple Lindsey shows HERE!  Don't miss him and his stable of guitars... He's reportedly back with Fleetwood Mac next year and it could be awhile before he's back out on his own again.

Stevie's not doing so bad herself, aside from the big shows with Rod Stewart this summer where big crowds were guaranteed she's managed a couple of solo sell outs herself in advance. The smaller more intimate venues are a no brainer to see her show and tickets move quickly it seems. The Beacon in NYC and The Niagra Falls show were two examples of shows that sold out well in advance of their date. Most of the venues she's used to playing in have been considerably larger then what Lindsey's been playing with the ticket price to match.  Its cool that she's adjusting down a bit to a smaller venue in some cities.  Even though some of her top ticket prices are a real commitment from fans she still manages to move a ton of tickets in a short amount of time where other artists of her caliber would have to put the show on sale months in advance.  That's how you know you have confidence in your audience when you can announce a show a month and a half ahead of time with top ticket prices and still manage a sizable crowd.

Stevie has 5 shows coming up, next month, two of which were just announced within the last couple of weeks.  Her show in Thackerville, OK on September 21st at WinStar World Resorts was announced quite some time ago and there are literally only 9 tickets left!  Most of which are single seats!!  So grab those if you can!  Ticketmaster

The show in St. Augustine, Florida on September 25th which was just announced a couple of weeks ago and went on sale August 17th is well on it's way to selling out. Seats still available at the back of the theatre on both levels.  These are perfect venues to see live acts in, there really isn't a bad seat in the house even if you are near the back.  And the sound is incredible compared to the big arena shows... St. Augustine Tickets are here at Ticketmaster.

Estero, Florida on September 27th goes on sale this Friday August 24th 10am at Ticketmaster.  So far no pre-sale has been announced for this show that I know of so the bulk of tickets should be available come 10am Friday AM.  Get Ready!  Ticketmaster

Two other shows where Stevie will be performing with other performers include Voices in The Park in Stanley Park in Vancouver Canada September 15th.  She's there along with Sarah McLachlan Bryan Adams, Jann Arden and others (and singing with Don Henley the night prior at a private function).  Hope it doesn't rain.  Still a few seated area seats left. Not sure what the limit is on the general admission area behind the seats, but it should be an entertaining evening if you are in Vancouver, plus it's for a really good cause.  Get tickets at Ticketmaster

The New Orleans show on September 22nd is presented by AARP and performers include Stevie Nicks, Gladys Knight and Melissa Etheridge.  There appears to be plenty of seats left for this show, but I believe it's at the tail end of a AARP convention being held in New Orleans and there will likely be a lot of last minute ticket buying.  Secure your seats today on Ticketmaster.

It Happened: 15 Years Ago Today Fleetwood Mac released "The Dance"

Fleetwood Mac "The Dance" Released 15 Years Ago Today

August 19, 1997 - Fleetwood Mac released The Dance on the 20th Anniversary of Rumours, and the 30th Anniversary of Fleetwood Mac. The ablum went on to become the fifth best selling live album of all time in the US. To date US sales alone total over 5 million copies. The Dance marks the first album to feature the most successful line-up of Fleetwood Mac since the release of Tango in The Night in 1987 and the first album by the band to top the US albums charts since 1982's Mirage.  The album debuted on Billboard's Top 200 Albums Chart September 6, 1997 with sales of 199,000.  It would spend the next 12 weeks inside the top 10 and would sell its first million copies in the US within 8 weeks.

The album contained three new tracks - Temporary One from Christine McVie, Bleed To Love Her from Lindsey Buckingham and Sweet Girl from Stevie Nicks.

Neal Preston Photos

It all began May 22, 1997 when the band reconvened in a Warner Bros. Studio soundstage in Burbank, California where over the course of two evenings (May 22nd and 23rd), The Dance was filmed before a live audience.  MTV began airing the special August 12th and one week later Reprise released the album on August 19th.  Warner Reprise released the VHS video version first on August 26th following the album release, then on DVD September 23, 1997.  To date The Dance video has been certified platinum.

The DVD version contained five exclusive tracks not found on the CD: Songbird, Gold Dust Woman, Gypsy, Over My Head and Go Insane.

With the release of The Dance, it not only delighting exsisting fans world wide, but we fell in love with them all over again.  Fans had all but given up on the classic line-up ever getting back together again.  The Dance also introduced the band, and was the entry point for many new fans of Fleetwood Mac - thanks in large part to the MTV and vh1 airings of The Dance and also in large part to the singles releases from the album including "Silver Springs" which was a Rumours cut originally slated for the album, but was cut at the last minute because of vinyl limitations only making it to the B-side of the Go Your Own Way single back in the 70's and later in 1992 on Fleetwood Mac's box set "25 Years - The Chain".  The tune was issued to pop, AC and Mainstream rock radio July 22, 1997 with "The Chain" following as a promotional only CD issued to radio August 4, 1997.  "Landslide" was released, remixed and reached as high as #51 on Billboards Top 100 Singles chart.

THE CHAIN
BLEED TO LOVE HER

Following the release, Fleetwood Mac mounted A huge 45 date US fall tour playing to sold out venues everywhere making this the first tour all 5 Rumours era members would be on stage together since 1982. It also marked the last tour with all five members as Christine McVie retired from the band in 1998.

Small club, 'small machine,' big sound: Lindsey Buckingham rocked solo at One Eyed Jacks
By Alison Fensterstock, The Times-Picayune

The stage at One Eyed Jacks Saturday night, in anticipation of Lindsey Buckingham, looked surprisingly bare. There was no forbidding security team, no extra sound personnel, no barriers at the stage’s edge, not even a chair by the microphone – just a spotlight and a couple of bottles of water. A rack of half a dozen very nice guitars in the wings stage right was the only hint that the night’s featured entertainment was a bona fide rock legend, veteran of inaugural balls, multi-platinum albums and one of the most complicated and dramatic band soap operas in musical history.

Steven Tyler and Friends to rock Fleetwood's Grand Opening

Steven Tyler and friends to rock Lahaina Aug. 23
Special big bash at Fleetwood’s a benefit for Childhelp on Maui
By JON WOODHOUSE
Maui News

After a soft opening on Aug. 2, Fleetwood's on Front St. is gearing up for a big bash. The restaurant owned by Fleetwood Mac's legendary drummer will host a series of grand opening benefit parties Wednesday through Aug. 25 featuring the Mick Fleetwood's Island Rumours Band, with some celebrity guests jetting in for the occasion.

Probably the most eagerly anticipated event will see Aerosmith's charismatic lead vocalist, Steven Tyler joining his Fleetwood Mac mate, along with blues great Johnny Lang for some major rocking with the Island Rumours Band on Aug. 23.

The special concert on the 23rd will benefit Childhelp on Maui. This non-profit organization seeks to meet the physical, emotional, educational and spiritual needs of abused, neglected and at-risk children.

The next night is all for Lahainaluna High School. There will be our regular menu with a $50 cover and Mick will play with Willie K and Island Rumours. All entry proceeds go to Lahainaluna."

The final opening event, on the 25th, will include entertainment with King Paris (aka Rick Vito) and The Hypnotics, featuring the Gentle Genie Giant on percussion. "There's no cover, it's open to the world, for people who love rock n' roll and want to be there," says Todd.

* Tickets for the Aug. 23rd benefit are $500 and $350, and include food and drink. There is a $50 cover charge for entertainment on the evening of the 24th, and a $25 donation for lunch on the same day. No cover on the 25th. There is also a private party on the 22nd with the Mick Fleetwood Blues Band. Call 669-Mick for more info. and reservations.

No mention of Stevie or John being there... Might Stevie fly over for the opening? She's got a bit of time before her road trippin' begins again mid-September??  John McVie's only one island over from Maui... Nonetheless, it's a big week ahead for Mick and his new restaurant.

Review: Lindsey Buckingham Live Friday in Baton Rouge

Buckingham brings big sound to solo concert
BY JOHN WIRT
Music critic
The Advocate

In the company of his Fleetwood Mac bandmates, Lindsey Buckingham typically performs for thousands of people in arenas. But he stood alone with his guitar Friday night on the stage of the 325-seat Manship Theatre.

Make that 11 guitars. In the course of a one-man show that lasted about an hour and 15 minutes, Buckingham played a different guitar for nearly every selection.

Not sharing the spotlight with such formidable singer-songwriters as Stevie Nicks and Christine McVie, Buckingham gave himself plenty of acoustic and electric guitar solos. His florid accompaniment style is a marvel. Buckingham’s brilliant thumb-and finger-picking velocity recalls such classical guitar masters as André s Segovia and the furiously intense strumming and arpeggios of flamenco guitarists.

Lindsey Buckingham
The Manship Theatre, Baton Rouge, LA, 08/17/12

Standing on a stage alone can be a very intimidating thing for a human to do. It takes courage and confidence to stand vulnerable with just a guitar and your voice. It also takes self-control, knowing when to wail and when to whisper.

Within the coziness of the 300-plus seat Manship Theatre, Lindsey Buckingham walked out with a seriousness that normally proceeds a symphony performance, picked up one of the dozen guitars he had lined up behind him, and took the audience on a carousel of notes with a staunch authoritativeness. If you were expecting a rock concert, you guessed wrong. Tonight Buckingham was in artiste mode, creating masterful chord changes with his bare fingers, forgoing a pick in favor of the intimacy a piece of flesh can convey.

Connoisseurs of Fleetwood Mac have known for years that there was more to Buckingham than his good looks and harmonically high lead vocals on such hits as “Go Your Own Way” and “Don’t Stop.” So for those expecting big hits brought out in a big way, Buckingham handed out instead delicacies from his oeuvre, songs both known and obscure, and remolded them on a different plane of existence within his usual musical realm.

Take for instance the Mac tune “Come.” Originally a mechanical adventure in steampunk bings and whistles, dipping into Mac-isms with a wink to the surreal, Buckingham took it apart and reorganized the chromosomes to become an aching beating heart of raw emotion, featuring a breathtaking solo.

“So Afraid,” another post-apocalyptic emotional breakdown that scorches in a Mac live show, has always been a Buckingham solo staple, and on this turn he seemed to bring it down just a half-beat slower for psychic emphasis on each note, building to a boiling point of pent-up soul sacrificing, exhausting it’s creator. It was simply – to pen an overly used word – amazing.

“Not Too Late,” “Shut Us Down” and the instrumental “Stephanie” harkened up folk-inspired melodies while “Go Your Own Way” and “Never Going Back Again” pleasantly pleased the more Mac pop hit loving oriented fans in the audience.
Buckingham wasn’t completely alone on stage. Although his fingers and voice provided 98% of what echoed through the room, there were some pre-recorded drums and backing instruments that enhanced several of the tunes. They never interfered with

Buckingham’s choral interpretations; they merely added some flavor to an already marinating piece of music. “Big Love,” another one of Buckingham’s trademark concert spotlights, albeit done a bit more friskier than usual, and an electrifying “Go Insane,” brought the crowd to their feet, as did the aforementioned “Go Your Own Way.” Ending his barely over an hour set with a lovely “Trouble” and a confessional “Seeds We Sow,” he left the audience craving more, which is what any great artist hopes to accomplish.

SETLIST: Cast Away Dreams, Bleed To Love Her, Not Too Late, Stephanie, Come, Shut Us Down, Go Insane, Never Going Back Again, Big Love, I’m So Afraid, Go Your Own Way ENCORE: Trouble, Seeds We Sow

TONIGHT! Catch Lindsey Buckingham flying solo at the Lutcher

The Examiner

You might recognize this legendary performer from his years as the lead guitarist and soloist of Fleetwood Mac, a member of the Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame, winner of countless awards, and as helping to define the sound of rock for the last three decades. He is the predominant musical force behind such popular Fleetwood Mac albums as “Rumours” and “Tusk.” His solo work has created such hits as “Trouble,” “Go Insane” and “Holiday Road.” Buckingham was with Fleetwood Mac from 1975 until 1987 and from 1997 to the present. Aside from his work with the group, Buckingham has released six solo albums and two live albums, and is known for his finger picking guitar style and wide vocal range.
