Lindsey Buckingham show is sweet but short

“Always leave them wanting more,” is a time-tested showbiz adage, but there’s such a thing as taking even good advice too much to heart. Such was the case Friday night at the Pageant, where once-and-(presumably) future Fleetwood Mac guitarist and sonic auteur Lindsey Buckingham put in a brilliant but exceedingly brief night’s work.

Clocking in at a mere 75 minutes, the show found Buckingham performing without the support of a backing band or even an opening act. Neither factor is a fault in itself. It’s often preferable at concerts to dive right into the headlining set; and solo shows can sometimes offer insights into heavily layered studio creations like Buckingham’s by stripping them bare.

So that much was fine. But the show was billed as “an evening with” Buckingham, and it was hardly that.

For the time he was onstage, however, Buckingham burned brightly, delivering dazzling guitar work and singing each song with energy and intensity.

According to the MaximoTV's guest list, Stevie will be at the LA Premiere of Breaking Dawn part 2 that will be held at the Nokia Theatre at LA Live on Monday Nov. 12, 2012.  Red Carpet takes place: 4:30pm - 7pm 

Stevie's song "Moonlight (A Vampire's Dream)" was inspired by "The Twighlight Saga New Moon" after she saw the movie in Australia in December, 2009 and the song was the catalyst for Stevie deciding to then record a new album "In Your Dreams."

Few more details:  There was a private Meet and Greet following the Q&A session with a professional photographer taking pictures of those who attended with Stevie.  Waddy was there as well and according to Maxx (see comments) Stevie sang "Soldiers Angel".

Friday (Nov. 9), Stevie Nicks and Dave Stewart hosted a special screening of “In Your Dreams,” a film the pair directed together, followed by a rousing Q&A discussion. Several dozen veterans and active duty military were invited to attend the event as Stevie shared her personal inspiration for the film and discussed her lengthy career.

The last time Lindsey Buckingham played in Lexington was fall 1982. The pop warhorse he co-piloted, Fleetwood Mac, was in the midst of its third Rupp Arena concert in five years. To give you a sense of the time, Men at Work was the opening act.

You could sense the shift already. Where the appeal of Fleetwood Mac up to that point was divided more or less evenly between his songs and the music that Stevie Nicks and Christine McVie brought to the band, the '82 show clearly put Buckingham in the driver's seat. He turned the non-hit Not That Funny, a fractured bit of pop mayhem from 1979's Tusk, into a trio rampage with group founders Mick Fleetwood and John McVie that largely flew in the face of the band's sleek, radio-friendly image.

Fleetwood Mac still exists. In fact, a tour is in the works for next year. But the recent rush of solo albums Buckingham has released (five in six years) points to the kind of agitated pop craftsman he remains at heart. The 2006 album Under the Skin, the best of the solo records, boasts dizzying, finger-picking guitar joy rides (the opening Not Too Late) as well as luxurious contemplation's (the Brazilian-flavored finale Juniper). The tunes also come dressed with vocals that sound alternately stressed, possessed and enchanted.

"His stamina kept the music's energy fresh and volatile," wrote Ben Ratliff in The New York Times of a performance that followed Under the Skin's release. "At times, he seemed to be nearing a state of hypnosis while booming away on voice and guitar."

Voice and guitar also define Buckingham's newest album, a digital-only concert recording titled One Man Show, which will be released Tuesday, and the solo acoustic performance he will give this week at the Opera House.

But if One Man Show is any indication, the latter will be anything but a polite, folky affair. At 63, Buckingham is a pop soul pursuing his muse with the most restless and reliable accompanist he could find: himself.

Lindsey's show at The Opera House in Lexington, KY takes place November 14, 2012.

Judd Apatow's upcoming movie "This is 40" soundtrack features THREE new tracks by Lindsey Buckingham.

And it appears Lindsey didn't produce himself.  His tracks along with Fiona Apple and Graham Parker were produced by Jon Brion. Which just makes me even more anxious to hear the new tunes.  Short wait for the release is a bonus!  The soundtrack will be released on December 11th, and movie arrives in theatres on December 21st.

Lindsey Buckingham at Yardley Hall: Short but sweet by BILL BROWNLEE Special to The Star Chalk one up for baby boomers. Popular music is the realm of young musicians and relevant artists over the age of 60 are the exception rather than the rule. While he didn't break any new ground during his bracing appearance Sunday at Yardley Hall, Lindsey Buckingham demonstrated that he remains vital. Buckingham, 63, used age to his advantage by supplanting youthful rebellion with urgent songs of uncommon maturity. During an unaccompanied performance for an audience of over 1,000, Buckingham reinterpreted old gems from his tenure with Fleetwood Mac and showcased sage songs from his solo career. An arduous rendition of "Not Too Late" served as the emotional core of the concert and as Buckingham's statement of purpose. He repeatedly howled "it's not too late" as he created distressed ripples of sound with his masterfully plucked guitar. As with most of the evening's 13 selections, "Not Too Late" contained personal epiphanies from the astute perspective of a seasoned artist who understands that time is precious. Lindsey Buckingham and a surprisingly riled up crowd, last night at Yardley Hall by David Hudnall  Pitch.com Yardley Hall, at Johnson County Community College, is a nice, big, dignified venue — somewhere between a high school theater and an opera house. If you are an important or otherwise lucky person, there are special boxes along the sides up top from which you can watch the show, possibly through tiny binoculars. This year's concert series includes Capitol Steps, Canada's Royal Winnipeg Ballet, and Garrison Keillor, among others. It is not the type of venue where people wave lighters in the air and chief surreptitious bowls in the corner. But last night at Yardley, the baby boomers in the house simply could not contain themselves. You'd have thought Grover Norquist was in town for a paid speaking engagement. But no: the buzz was all for Lindsey Buckingham, former guitarist and vocalist for Fleetwood Mac. I can't find a video online of that Chappelle's Show sketch about white people loving guitar solos, but if you've seen that, you pretty much understand the vibe last night. Buckingham is an amazing guitar player, and his 70-minute set was as much a clinic as it was a performance. He took the stage in a leather jacket and form-fitting jeans, looking at least a decade younger than his 63 years. After each song, he would tilt up his guitar and clutch it to his heart, as though it were a child, and bask in the wild applause. Then a tech would cross the stage and hand Buckingham a new guitar. I'm pretty sure he never used the same guitar on consecutive songs. Full review at Pitch.com
