Update on Stevie's Crystal Visions Sales Figures

Big thanks to Gary for asking Billboard.

TICKS OF NICKS
Ask Billboard

Hello,
I am a huge fan of Stevie Nicks and I (along with many of her other fans) are very interested in the sales figures of some of her albums. Can you tell us how many copies of "Crystal Visions," "Trouble in Shangri-La" and "Rock a Little" have been sold? Can you help us? There is no information like this on the Web.Gary Brunton

Hi Gary,

So far, "Crystal Visions: The Very Best of Stevie Nicks," has sold 215,000 in the U.S. according to Nielsen SoundScan. So, it's still far off from earning a gold certification from the Recording Industry Association of America. (Gold indicates that 500,000 units have been shipped to U.S. retailers. For more information about the RIAA and their gold and platinum certification program, visit their official Web site at http://www.riaa.com/.)

2001's "Trouble in Shangri-La," Nicks' most recent studio album, has shifted 660,000. "Rock a Little," a 1985 album, has sold 99,000 since 1991 (when Nielsen SoundScan began tracking album sales).
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Not bad for Crystal Visions considering it dropped off the Billboard 200 Chart at the end of June, 2007. Here's the sales figures tracked during it's run on the big chart:

Crystal Visions Sales To Date
04/14/07 #21 - 33,944
04/21/07 #52 - 20,884 = 54,828
04/28/07 #49 - 13,384 = 68,212
05/05/07 #71 - 9,687 = 77,899
05/12/07 #73 - 9,531 = 87,430
05/19/07 #91 - 7,829 = 95,259
05/26/07 #116 - 7,421 = 102,680
06/02/07 #138 - 5,535 = 108,215
06/09/07 #131 - 5,705 = 113,920
06/16/07 #108 - 6,558 = 120,478
06/23/07 #152 - 5,212 = 125,690
06/30/07 #169 - 5,320 = 131,010

Stevie Nicks in Tampa on June 8

Article published on Tuesday, May 27, 2008

TAMPA - Singer and songwriter Stevie Nicks brings her show to the Ford Amphitheatre on Sunday, June 8, 7:30 p.m.

Famed for her mystical chanteuse image, Nicks enjoyed phenomenal success not only as a solo artist but also as a key member of Fleetwood Mac.

During her senior year in High School, Nicks met fellow student Lindsey Buckingham, with whom she formed the band Fritz. Between 1968 and 1971, the group became a popular attraction on the West Coast music scene, opening for Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin and Creedence Clearwater Revival

After moving to Los Angeles, the duo recorded their 1973 debut LP, Buckingham-Nicks. Despite a cover which featured the couple nude, the album flopped; however, it caught the attention of the members of Fleetwood Mac, who invited Buckingham and Nicks to join their ranks.

In quick time, the revitalized group achieved unparalled success: after the LP Fleetwood Mac topped the charts, they recorded Rumours, which sold over 17 million copies and stood for several years as the best-selling album of all-time.

Major hit singles like "Dreams" and "Rhiannon" made Nicks a focal point of Fleetwood Mac, and she took time off from the group to record her solo debut, Bella Donna, which hit Number One on the strength of the Top 20 hits "Stop Draggin' My Heart Around" (a duet with Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers), "Leather and Lace" (a duet with Don Henley) and "Edge of Seventeen (Just Like the White Winged Dove)." Over the following years to the present, Nicks continued to record with Fleetwood Mac as well as establishing a strong solo career.

Tickets are $125, $75, $55, $35 and $25 and available at the box office, online at www.livenation.com, at all Ticketmaster locations, including FYE and Spec's Music. To charge by phone, call 727-898-2100 or 813-287-8844.

Happy 25th US Festival!

This Memorial Day weekend, one of the cornerstones of today's festival scene celebrates its silver anniversary. Flush with the first wave of personal computing fortunes, Apple's Steve Wozniak financed and played ringleader at two massive music festivals and technology expositions. The first took place over Labor Day weekend 1982 and included The Police, Gang of Four, The Ramones, The Cars, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Fleetwood Mac and a breakfast set by The Grateful Dead. Anyone who'd missed the inaugural bash wanted in the next year, which would sadly be the last US Festival.

Wozniak paid for the construction of a new open-air venue and state-of-the-art stage at Glen Helen Regional Park in San Bernardino, California. Saturday, May 28, 1983 (New Wave Day) featured Oingo Boingo, Stray Cats, Divinyls, Wall of Voodoo, The English Beat, Men At Work, INXS and a headlining set from The Clash, which would be Mick Jones' last appearance with the band. Sunday, May 29 (Heavy Metal Day) featured Mötley Crüe, Quiet Riot, Ozzy Osbourne, Judas Priest, Triumph, The Scorpions and was headlined by Van Halen, who received a then staggering $1.5 million to appear. Monday, May 30 (Rock Day) included Little Steven & The Disciples of Soul, Los Lobos, Berlin, Quarterflash, U2, The Pretenders, Missing Persons, Joe Walsh, Stevie Nicks and headliner David Bowie. A separate Country Day followed the next weekend with Ricky Skaggs, Hank Williams Jr., Emmylou Harris, Alabama, Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson at the top of the bill.

Each weekend was attended by several hundred thousand people (estimates vary wildly but agree at least 300,000 folks showed up to the second US Festival) but were crushing financial disasters. Wozniak lost an estimated $20 million combined for the two events. Still, for those who participated it was unbelievably special and remarkably peaceful. The sheer audacity of the scale of everything was overwhelming and delightful, a shared piece of history that one felt unfolding right in the moment.

Stevie's set that night consisted of an assortment of tunes from Fleetwood Mac along with new stuff that hadn't even been released yet, namely Stand Back.

Here's a link to download the first song she performed that night. Gold Dust Woman. AVI File size is 58mb.
