ZZ TOP have cancelled another one of their formerly committed to dates with The Mick Fleetwood Blues Band as their show opener.
Officials of the Kansas State Fair are scrambling to fill not one but two slots in their music lineup after the second cancellation by a top grandstand act.
Fair officials said Tuesday that ZZ Top scratched its Sept. 19 performance. The venerable Texas blues-rock trio has accepted an invitation instead to tour with Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers - a tour with no Midwestern dates.
Fair director Denny Stoecklein said ZZ Top and its opening act, the Mick Fleetwood Blues Band, had already sold 1,599 tickets in the week since tickets went on sale. Fleetwood's band also canceled.
"We are very disappointed in this action," said Stoecklein. "ZZ Top and its management authorized us to announce the concert, authorized us to go on sale with tickets, and had issued a contract."
Stoecklein said he has contacted Kansas Attorney General Steve Six's office to explore possible recourse and recover damages associated with the cancellation.
