Lindsey Buckingham reaps what he sows...

By: Tom Lanham

Fans can argue the point till the cows come home. But the cold, hard truth of the matter is that Lindsey Buckingham has always been — and continues to be — the real brains and heartbeat behind Fleetwood Mac.

Want proof?

Look no further than “Tusk,” the band’s inventive 1979 two-disc set, wherein Buckingham followed his punk rock muse and tracked his own songs in his DIY home studio before returning to band sessions to oversee the other members’ material. So it’s no surprise that the Grammy-winning guitarist has returned to his old atavistic ways with “Seeds We Sow,” his new sixth solo album that streets on Sept. 6.

For “Seeds,” Buckingham took DIY to its ultimate zenith. He not only wrote and performed every note of the record himself, he produced and mixed it all, as well.

A first single, “In Our Own Time,” is already on the way. Even cooler? We can claim the guy as one of our own. Long before he and his Buckingham Nicks partner Stevie Nicks joined Fleetwood Mac and went on to sell over 100 million albums, then flew solo with 1981’s surreal “Law And Order” debut, he hailed from Palo Alto.

Recently, the Rock And Roll Hall Of Famer received a coveted Les Paul Award, plus ASCAP’s Golden Note Award. And he’s also launching a 31-city North American tour, which hits San Francisco’s Regency Ballroom on Oct. 19.

The first single to be taken from the LP is titled 'In Our Time'. Other tracks on the album include 'Ilumination', 'One Take', 'End Of Time', 'When She Comes Down' and 'When She Smiles Sweetly'.

Buckingham has also announced that he will undertake a full US tour to coincide with the release, with 31 dates booked for the autumn. He has not, as yet, scheduled any European tour dates.

BUCKINGHAM PREPS FOR 31-CITY NORTH AMERICAN TOUR

Los Angeles, CA (June 13, 2011)- Legendary guitarist, singer/songwriter, Grammy winner, producer and Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame member Lindsey Buckingham will release his 6th solo album, Seeds We Sow, on September 6th 2011. This album is Buckingham’s first self-release, in which he took a true DIY approach, not only writing and performing every song on the record but producing and mixing them as well. Buckingham also announced a 31-city North American tour in support of the album which kicks off on September 9th in Nevada and continues through October 25th in Napa, CA (full routing below). Tickets go on sale in select cities beginning June 16, check your local venue for ticket purchase and on-sale info.

Speaking on Seeds We Sow, Buckingham says, “This might be the best work I've ever done. I think it's an excellent representation of what I do. It shows a certain maturity and musicianship and I just feel like I have a lot of tools in my musical vocabulary from which to draw that are again the product of the choices I’ve made. It’s on my own terms. This is very much from the inside out and I hope I never stop doing that.”

SEEDS WE SOW

From the album’s first single “In Our Own Time,” to the soft melodic pop/rock tinge of “End Of Time” and the album’s most rocking track, “One Take,” to the touching “When She Comes Down” and the almost lullaby-esque hushed tones of the gorgeous closing number, “She Smiles Sweetly,” the album showcases Buckingham’s full arsenal of skills. Just as his guitar style on Seeds We Sow is more mature and refined, so too are his lyrics, with one of the standout tracks being the hook-laden “Illumination.” “I think the lyrics over the years have actually gotten better because they’ve gotten a little, I don’t want to say obscure, but more poetic in the way they’re created,” he says, adding, “It’s a mysterious process even to me.”
