Maui Weekly

Dessert-lovers have more than one good reason to attend The Shops at Wailea's second annual Life Is Sweet event on Saturday, Nov. 19, from 2 to 6 p.m. at the shopping plaza.

To mark the occasion, Wailea's top chefs will compete to create a signature dessert for 2011, and the public is invited to sample the entries as part of a community fundraiser for Best Buddies Hawai'i. Sweet!

The Life Is Sweet celebration, sponsored by Wailea Beach Marriott and The Shops at Wailea, will feature delicious desserts and samplings of savory entrees created by some of the most renowned chefs from South Maui's famous resorts and restaurants. The event will also include celebrity judges for the dessert competition, live Hawaiian music to help set the party atmosphere, and a silent auction filled with great deals on island products and services.

The festivities will also include a VIP wine-tasting party, where guests can meet the celebrity judges. Celebrity hosts and judges rejoining from last year's event include Maureen McCormick, aka Marcia Brady from the classic 1970's television sitcom "The Brady Bunch," and musician Mick Fleetwood of the rock group Fleetwood Mac. Be ready for other surprise guests!

All proceeds from Life Is Sweet will help support Best Buddies Hawai'i and its local programs to assist developmentally challenged youth in island schools.
