REVIEW: Stevie Nicks "Playing over a two hour set, Nicks showed she still has it going on"

Rock Legend Stevie Nicks Wows Seneca Niagara Casino
By Melanie Hulick

The stage was set to receive one of Rock and Rolls best female vocalists at Seneca Niagara Events Center Saturday, July 7th, 2012.The sold out crowd was already in a frenzy before Nicks even took to the stage, as the lights went down and Nicks began singing a cover of Led Zeppelin’s “Rock and Roll” from backstage while the band members, one by one, took their places, followed by Nicks, to flashing strobe lights and cheers loud enough to bring the house down.

Nicks delivered a show that had something for everyone of her fans with some Fleetwood Mac hits, some solo works and the purpose of the 2012 tour, her newest material from her album “In Your Dreams”. The singer-songwriter made it clear when she said, “This is not a greatest hits tour. I will do some songs from my solo career, and yes, some from my Fleetwood Mac days, but this tour is about my new album. I have to move on to new things, move forward,” she added.

This was my first time seeing Nicks in concert and I was sure she would put on a good show, but I wasn’t expecting what I noticed. At times it was as if she was almost possessed by the music… not in a the sense of it being a bad thing, but like you could almost see the music enter her body as she would “air” play the different instruments along with the musicians, fingering the chords like she was the instrument herself, and she would sway as if she was being directed to in a way from inside her. Then I thought… music is something you hear, but maybe if you could “see” music, this is what it would look like.

Stevie Nicks Doesn’t Just Rely On Past Laurels
Seneca Niagara Events Center, Niagara Falls, NY - July 7, 2012

Rock Show Critique
Review/Photos By: Joseph Suto

July 2, 1983, which takes us all the way back to her Wild Heart Tour, was the last time Stevie Nicks graced a Buffalo area stage as a solo artist. Fans of Ms. Nicks have been clamoring for her to play in the area and have waited a very long time. Well, Saturday evening at The Seneca Niagara Events Center, fans old and new both received their fill as Nicks and her band sifted through her catalog. Nicks made it a point to say how she was glad the fans were enjoying her more recent material. She stated this is not a greatest hits tour as she backed that up by playing no less than six cuts from last years In Your Dreams release, also her latest.

Nicks decided to try something a little different by starting off with the Zeppelin classic “Rock And Roll”. It wasn’t that the performance was bad, but perhaps one of her own songs such as “Stand Back”, which was played later in the set, would have gone over better in the opening slot. The chart topping “Dreams” was the first of four Fleetwood Mac songs on the evening. Stevie stated how “New Moon” from the Twilight series of films inspired her to finish writing Moonlight (A Vampire’s Dream) a song from In Your Dreams that dates back almost some thirty years.

Just released...
Albatross | Lee Ranaldo Band featuring J Mascis another one of the Fleetwood Mac cover tunes featured on the upcoming August 14th release of "Just Tell Me That You Want Me".  It's an instrumental track and I think sounds fairly close to the original (once you get past the first minute).

Chart Update: Fleetwood Mac | Stevie Nicks Domestic Sales & International Charts

Billboard Top 200 Albums Chart
Week ending July 1st - Billboard Chart Date July 14, 2012

Amazing... Fleetwood Mac have 3 albums on this weeks Billboard Top 200 Albums Chart!

Fleetwood Mac's 1988 Greatest Hits album re-enters Billboards Top 200 Albums Chart this week at #65 with US sales for the week of 6,544 units, up from 2,222 last week (195% increase). This marks the albums 32nd non-consecutive week on the Top 200. The album is also sitting at #7 on the Top 200 Catalogue Charts, up from #78 and at #4 on the Top 200 Catalogue Digital Albums Chart up from #42. The album was an Amazon Deal a little over a week ago discounted to $2.99 for the digital download which contributed to the large sales increase.  The album continues today at $2.99 on Amazon. Total digital sales for this reporting period were 5,864 a 320% increase over the previous weeks number of 1,397. Overall total US sales since November, 1991 are 4,562,666.

Fleetwood Mac's self titled 1975 white album also re-enters the Top 200 Chart this week at #187 on sales of 2,864 units, up from 261 units the previous week. Total sales for the white 1975 Fleetwood Mac album in the US since November, 1991 are 852,975.  This marks this albums 149th non-consecutive week on the chart.   The album also re-entered the Top 200 Catalogue Charts at #40.  The album also re-entered the Top 200 Catalogue Physical Chart at #11 with 2,712 physical units sold. The 2004 re-released remastered album with bonus tracks was discounted at Amazon for $5.00, not as a digital download but for the actual disc! That's a pretty amazing deal! The AMAZON sale has since ended.

For a 4th Week, Fleetwood Mac's 2002 double cd release "The Very Best Of" remains on the Top 200 Chart - albeit in second last place moving down the chart from #181 to #199.  Sales for the week were 2,682 vs 3,134 the previous week, a 14% sales decline. Total US sales for The Very Best Of are 1,492,697 - just shy of triple platinum (each sold unit is counted as 2 because the set contains 2 discs). Unless the album receives a boost in sales, it will likely drop off next weeks chart.  The album is also charting on the Top Catalogue Charts at #43 down from #37 the previous week and on the Top 200 Physical Chart at #12, down from #7 the previous week.

Rumours remains on a few charts in the US as well.  On the Top 200 Catalogue Albums Chart the album moves up to #50 from #107 the previous week on unit sales of 2,467 vs 1,991 the previous week, a 24% sales increase. The album is also sitting at #180 on the Top 200 Catalogue Physical Charts, down from #163 the previous week. Physical sales of the CD were 1,034 vs 1,139 the previous week.  On the Top 200 Catalogue Digital Albums Chart the album moves up to #34 from #107 the previous week on digital sales of 1,433 vs 851 the previous week.  Total US sales for Rumours since November, 1991 are 2,968,145.

Stevie Nicks 1981 debut album Bella Donna finds itself hanging on to #192 on the Top 200 Catalogue Physical Albums Chart, up from #199 last week.  Sales for the week were static at 1,011 units sold.  Total album sales since November, 1991 are 865,838.
